My friend is hosting a modded Minecraft server for 1.12.2 and using the IP that he gave me in the server list, the server in the multiplayer browser displays a completely different one. The server that I want to join is operational because 2 people are able to join it. The version for the random server is 1.14.4 and nobody knows any of the people playing on the server. The IP address given to me has no port so I was wondering if there is a way for me to avoid having that server appear on my multiplayer list and have the 1.12.2 server appear instead? Thanks.
Lemme guess, he has shared hosting? You likely need to ensure the port is correct for his instance. Like on a lot of shared cheap hosting they say you can use like 188.8.131.52:25001 for example. The :25001 is a non-standard port specification. If his server is using the default port, you'd put 184.108.40.206 and it'd be fine. But if not, putting 220.127.116.11 gets you whomever's server is running on the standard port. You'd need to specify his server's port to get to his server.
