Hey guys, new here but I'll try my best to supply as much information as I can for this. Basically, I set up a server that runs and operates perfectly on my computer (the same computer that is hosting it). I can simply type 0 into direct connect and I'm in. When I tried to get my friends into the server using 188.175.150.48:25565 as the address (not my real public ip, but close) it tells them that the connection times out after loading for 10 seconds or so.
I decided that the first thing to check would be the port. So I put my public IP, and the port into a port checker, and come to find out, the port is CLOSED. So that's where I'm at. I did go into windows defender and add a rule allowing the port (didn't help), as well as went into norton (my antivirus) and disabled basically everything, still nothing. My router is a google Onhub router, which I despise because I can't log into it on my computer, everything has to be done via app on my phone. I did double check the port, made sure all of the numbers matched for the port, tried both TCP and UDP on seperate occasions, and nothing. My computer's local IP is the one listed under the port, that is all fine. I've looked all over the internet for ideas and have come up with nothing.
Let me just add, that this whole thing seems pretty ridiculous to me, on my Xbox, my friends and I could literally start a server as If I joining a lobby in another game, but here, I'm having to be an IT master just to get my friends onto a minecraft server with me, there has to be an easier way to do this.
Regardless, I appreciate any help you guys can offer
Alright, but even when I shut it off completely on my computer, the port still wouldn't open. Also went into windows defender and tried adding a new rule for the port and it didn't work either.

Shutting it off won't cut it, uninstall Norton.
