I've been away from Minecraft for years. Could someone explain about dedicated servers since the newer Windows Minecraft does not use java? Can you still host a dedicated server over Windows? Does it need Java? If it still uses Java, can non-Java MC versions connect to the server?
Depends on the minecraft edition. The java edition, as the name says, needs java. Only java edition players can join java edition servers. The bedrock edition has its own server software which is still in alpha afaik.
