I'm new to the forums and am returning to Minecraft after an extended absence. Some friends and I have decided to host a local Minecraft server, and I'm in the process of setting it up. I set it up via Linux, using Minecraft Server Manager. Setting up the server was a relatively straightforward process, but connecting to it has been a whole other story.
When the server is active, I am able to see it listed on the Multiplayer tab of the Minecraft client (Java, Windows 10), but it says unavailable. When I try to direct connect to it via IP address, it returns an error saying "invalid session". What's stranger is that after I get the "invalid session" error, my Mojang password is no longer valid and I have to reset it. I've done this several times now and each time my account seems to lock after trying to connect via IP.
I'm aware that this is likely going to have to be solved via Mojang's end, but their current response time is something on the order of a month so I thought I'd ask around in the meantime. Is this something anyone here has come across before? Does anyone have some insight that might be helpful?
