Hey everyone so I've created servers before and they've worked but that was before my internet was upgraded. Now I tried to port forward and no matter what I do I cant get 25565 to become open and im really stuck if anyone could help that would be awesome
When you say open up do you mean on your computer or wifi? And make sure when you port forward you select your computer name to be the host, otherwise it won't work. Then make sure you run the server. I bet you are running it but just in case make sure you are running the server. Also in the files check that it says 25565. If you don't mind can you screenshot your port forward settings? Maybe you set it up wrong.
What i mean when i say open is when you port forward it should open up that port so people can join but thats not happening i also dont understand what you mean select to be host. I know my port forwarding was done correctly cause i have done it before but was before my internet was upgraded. Im also connected by Ethernet idk if that makes a difference.
If the ISP uses a NAT system so that they don't need the additional IPv4 ip addresses, then your whole router setup means nothing in terms of portforwarding through that NAT. Of course, you could ask them to give you a custom IP with all ports portforwarded, or ask them to assign that port to your router. You could also use a VPN that supports portforwarding. If that's simply not the case, check your router firewall and computer firewall/antivirus and check any filtering applications to make sure they aren't blocking. And remember, if you're hosting it, connect to it with "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" and use a Minecraft Server Query tool to confirm that it isn't working by entering the external IP.
It could also simply be config misconfiguration or the lacking thereof, so please, post them if nothing works.
Usually you have to select the device you would like to set up for port forwarding. Make sure people try and connect using your public ip. I would recommend using https://dinnerbone.com/minecraft/tools/status/ to see if your server is up. If it helps click the portforwarding video in my signature.
Sorry for the late reply been busy. Still cant seem to get it to work but local host works fine but friends cant join so it has to be something with port forwarding. I've already allowed java and everything through the computer firewall. but I think it might be the router firewall, but i have no idea how i would allow it through that.

Hmmm what kind of WiFi do you have and what do you mean when you say you can’t get it to become open?
Leave a thanks if I helped you!
I have Spectrum if thats what you were asking. I mean that after i do the forwarding and check the port 25565 it does not open up at all.

Is the server running when you test? What does your config look like? Does your provider support port forwarding?
Ignore the other guy. Its pretty clear he doesn't understand what hes talking about since he doesn't understand what an open port means.
Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.

I figured it out had to set my network to bridge mode thanks anyways!
