I know that this has been a pretty big and is still a pretty big problem with players starting up their first Minecraft servers however, I cannot seem to find the answer to my troubles in any common thread.
I have a dedicated server that some of my friends have requested that I fire up Minecraft on. Thing is, I've got 5 free IP addresses I can use with it. I've got other various games on some of them, but I'd like Minecraft to run on one specific IP. That way all the servers can run on that IP and I'll just change the port should I start more than one.
The problem is that when I state the IP in the "server-ip=" field, it gives a "FAILED TO BIND TO PORT" issue. Which I know is caused by that field having something in it. I just want to know, how do I actually specify that Minecraft run on a specific IP?
I've been digging since I started the post, and it would seem that even though my server has been allotted the IPs, they have not been configured. I'm trying to do that now (had quite a busy day). I'll update the thread with my findings.
Ok, so in a nutshell, since my DS is a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, you have to attach the IP's to the network interface. I've done this by entering the following into the console.
ip addr <ipa.ip.ipa.ipa> dev eth0:0 (or eth0:1, whatever)
sudo ifdown eth0:0 && ifup eth0:0
Greetings all,

have you made sure the port is not blocked?
Yes, I've opened the port.

I brought the server up and it runs just fine.
