What my startup console looks like
(it instantly crashes a split-second after this text is displayed, timing the screenshot right to get this picture was very difficult)


What my folder looks like:
(Not really relevant, as this is an issue with java arguments, but I know someone will probably ask to see what my folder looks like)


What my server.properties file looks like:
(Again, not relevant, but I know someone will ask to see it)


So for some reason my system (Windows 8.1) does not recognize "java" as a legitimate startup command.
This is the text I have in my startup.bat launch parameters:

What am I doing wrong? Why does my system not recognize java as a legitimate command?

Add Java to your system path.

I tried adding Java to my system path, and it did not work. Please explain to me how I should do it.

What did you paste into the path variable?

;C:\path to the\jre\directory\

or something, right?

Where did you install java at? What is the full directory.
