Okay so I have 64 bit JDK, I have 38 gigs of RAM dedicated to the MC server (modded), and I have 24 CPU cores available to it. Me and my friends are basically using a modified version of voltz/tekkit.
We have had a little lag for a while but I'd like to clear it up now that we at least stabilized our mods. Not sure if theirs a way to measure TPS, didn't find anything that I quite understood on a search, but if you fist a dirt block you basically break it 2 or 2.5 times before it actually breaks.
In my situation, I have a 3Gbps connection to this server, along with a couple other PCs i tested this with.
I did play with some switches or args (same thing i think) and got the lag on the server reduced a little but not by much. I think i found every arg i could use but still feel free to suggest anything, it would be appreciated.
and just an FYI, the server does normally require about 12gb or ram when no ones on just because of chunk loaders and factories and what not. Also note that I do not see the server actually consume more then 20gb of ram but i had more available so i figured I'd throw it over. The processor normally stays quite low and i did set the java process to high CPU priority.
and for anyone curious, yes, there is a measurable temperature difference when this minecraft server starts on this host. That corner of the room goes up about 2*F after an hour. This is consistent.
