I have litteraly followed every tutorial on how to do this, and i can't, when i use my internal ip, it works, but not my external, idk why, i've port forwarded it and still nothing, i am on mac osx sierra, java 8 please help
First, calm down it's fine. Creating your first server is definetly difficult, but you'll get the hang of things. Second what type of server are you trying to create, as this is a very important step to creating a server. Thanks!
Modded Forge 1.7.10, but, it says it's running, and when i put my external ip address into it it dosen't work, i've attempted to create many servers but this is the same problem.
Are you on a windows, OSX? what is your platform? I need to know so I can give you the proper steps to creating a successful server. Also post anything else I should know.
Go to minecraft.net. Download the server.jar for the version you want for your server. Drag the downloaded server.jar into a folder named Minecraft server. Double click the jar wait til server starts. The server will shut down immediately without you doing anything so, open the file named eula. Put it to true instead of false. Start up server again and there you go! Server made! You can simply stop the server by typing stop. Hope I helped! if you have any problems tell me and I will try to help you out!

That is for a vanilla server. Not a forge server. That also does not apply to the main question at all.

Okay bro, what have you got?
- I'm guessing you have all your server files set up?
- What is your ipv4 address? (found by typing ipconfig into the terminal)
- what ip address did you put in your server's properties?
- What ip address did you port forward?
- what port number did you put in your server properties?
- what port number did you port forward?
- Does your computer have a static ip?
- How did you find your external ip?
Sorry for all the questions, but they make finding the easy problems very fast or eliminate them if the problem is something else.
Hey, sorry for not replying, I've been busy.
I would say that you portforwarded correctly based on what you gave me. Just make sure sure your computer's ipv4 address is the same as the one you forwarded. Setting a static ip is a crucial part of self-hosting. If you haven't yet, here is a guide for mac: https://portforward.com/networking/static-Mac10.4.htm
Also just to let you know, it is not a risk if you give someone your internal (ipv4) address. Since it is an internally assigned and used address, it cannot be seen or accessed from the outside of the network (aka It can't be used to hack into computers). External, on the other hand, should never be given to anyone unless they are close friends or family. That is why I didn't ask you for it, I just wanted to make sure you knew which ip was your external.
