Alright hello, everyone! So I'm running a server on a spare server of mine (Older Dell Poweredge it's a real server grade piece of hardware) running Ubuntu 16.04 (Headless).
So in my early server devving days of this project, I just did it on my laptop (also Ubuntu but this one has desktop Environment) and I also had the issue there with that test server.
With Ubuntu, the server will not start if I use a Java command and then define RAM parameters. Just doesn't seem to understand the syntax.
So right now the command I run is
-jar spigot1.8.jar nogui
now that does in fact work but the max RAM is 1700 or so MB. Now this server is at the moment just for Minecraft and a tiny bit of FTP and running in a headless environment so I could crank out 5 or 6 GB to it no problem--but I can't set RAM parameters I'm not sure if there are any fellow Linux fanboys out there who may know the answer to this but how would I go about this?
Yes I know the command java -Xms512M -Xmx1G but it seems to think I am trying to run a program called '-Xms512M' its not an urgent issue but it would be nice to have solved and basic googling didn't come up with anything.
