I'm not exactly sure where to start here. I've tried restarting the minecraft server client within the server and also fully rebooted the server. The server is a CentOS 6.X box and has been running fine for months. Earlier today I installed backup software and ran a backup (I failed to stop the minecraft server before the backup was run) though I'm not sure if that would cause this. Anyhow. I logged in today to continue my base construction and found that a number of the chests were not rendering at all. Concerned I approached where I knew them to be and found that they were still there but invisible. Opening them makes them viable again and they stay that way but they are empty. The odd thing is this is not happening to all of my chests. I have some very near to where I first noticed the issue that are fine. I went into another area and noted the same problem. Some of the chests were viable and loaded with what I would have expected and some were invisible which would reappear if I opened them but they were empty. Another oddity I noted was I have a sign in the same area which initially was not rendering at all and later would render but was blank. This is less of a concern as its easily fixed but I have no idea what could cause this type of issue overall. This server has been running 1.11 since it was released and only today did I note the issue. Does anyone have any ideas on what may have occurred and where I should begin in (hopefully) correcting the problem?
I had just run a backup that day. Is it only the world directory that I will need or what is the minimum folders from the old server that would be required to bring the server in its hopefully repaired state back online?
Well I go the restore figured out but its had no effect on a newly installed minecraft instance. Looks like the damage is permanent. Really weird how it randomly took out some chests and not others. Must admit my faith that my items will still be there for me on this server is a it shaken. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I'd really like to still figure out what happened but all I can do now is collect the emptied chests affected and move on.
