I have downloaded the file from the Mojang website. It is a zipped file. When I open it nothing launches. I do not see a .jar file. Some tutorials say to find the files named "server", but they are not there either.
I have searched online and cannot find any answers.
Your filesystem/computer is currently recognizing the .jar file as a zip folder due to having settings in the Filesystem. this may be because in the past you have set it to open using your Zip program.
Simple leave it as is.
When you run the minecraft installer for your server it will still recognize the jar file.

You don't need an installer for the server, you need to start the minecraft_server.jar file using a .bat file. Open a blank Notepad file and put this in it.
Then save the file as start.bat in the same location as the .jar file (or what you see as a zip). Now double click the .bat file to run it, if you get a message about the EULA, then you've succeeded. Just do what it says to agree to the EULA and get your server started.

Thank you!
The file shouldn't be zipped, it should be a .jar file. Are you downloading it from here?
Yes, that is where I am downloading from. The label says .jar but it downloads as a zip file.
Can you screenshot what it looks like in your file system?
I can't figure out how to attach an image. Can I send it to you another way? I'm saving as a png.
I just scrolled down and saw the button...

Where do I find the server installer? The file "MinecraftInstaller" below the zip file is the installer for Minecraft, not the server.

Couldn't find the file...
I tried renaming the zip file to.jar and ran it again with no luck.
Anyone have any other ideas?
