I want to know how to get lots of people to stay on my minecraft server. When people join because they see me on minecraftservers.org or planetminecraft usually they come when I'm at school. But when they come when I'm at home they just leave sometimes. Could some of you all join my server? We have KitPVP (KitBattle sign at spawn), Skywars, SG in development, and also Survival, we make add factions.
You took the time to read my post, join my server and if there is Spazeplayz or Magifatness or Ropro19 or Kage_No_Rira or ShadowLira on the server tell one of them that you read my post for the free stone rank. The IP is, and I also need help making this different, s8.minespan.com:26292
There is no fast answer for that problem. How to attract and retain players is a problem facing many, many server owners. People will always say the same; make your server unique. Good luck thinking of something nobody has done, heh.
As for changing your domain name (that's not an IP, though the Minecraft forum vernacular seems to accept a domain as an IP much to my chagrin) you can register your own domain for a few bucks. You can then setup a CNAME like "play" or something so play.yourdomain.com points to s8.minespan.com. You could also setup a SRV record so you can skip the :26292 part as well.
You can get one from no-ip.com for free, it'll just have to be a subdomain on one of their free domains. There are other free DNS providers out there too, no-ip is just the first one that came to mind.
1. Setup your server and test before you release it to the public. Most of the people will join and find problems then leave.
2. Create a better chat formatting. The yellow with the world isn't that good. Make something that will make the chat look clean and original.
3. Since you have multiple things, I would recommend a hub rather then a survival spawn with options to go to other worlds.
4. Make your announcements less frequent and add more variety. I would say about 100-200 second delay between them.
5. Create a better starting kit rather then the default essentials one.
6. Fix the permissions. Some basic essentials commands are missing. Go to the essentials permissions page and go through the permissions you want.
7. Add an info area that gives so detail on commands and what you can do on the server.
8. Consider 1.9. Altough lots of plugins are breaking due to 1.9, lots of players are now using 1.9 clients and won't support 1.8. You can try using ViaVersion that will allow 1.9 clients to join a 1.8 server.
9. Have a way to talk to your staff rather than leaving notes around spawn on what the staff can't do.

I have a Kit PVP plugin. You were never supposed to do /kits or /kit <kit>. Just click the KB sign at spawn. Cleaned the chat. Announcements are less frequent. Permissions will be fixed. #7? Don't understand. I'm using ViaVersion now. I have and always had my staff's Skype. I just wanted to point it out if people see a staff member flying or in gamemode c, to report them. And yes, that's helped me.

Is there a way to get that for free?

Thats a question 90% of server owners are still asking. There is no definite answer. Just never give up and eventually you may make it.
If any of you could test this IP that would be great.
koolkraft.noip.me
It isn't working.
I've added it to my servers list. Will wait if someone joins.
Hi,
I have a few recommendations to help your server.

UPDATE:
I couldn't get the IP to change, so join using s8.minespan.com:26292
