File is located in /home/oneup_shroom/minecraft/minecraft.1.7.10.jar
After CD into that directory I run chmod to allow permissions to the jar file.
chmod +x minecraft.1.7.10.jar
I then rename the file for ease of use
mv minecraft_server.1.7.10.jar minecraft.jar
Then my launch script, which is where things seem to fall apart
java –Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft.jar nogui
The error that comes out of the launch is "Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile minecraft.jar".
I have tried multiple server instances and started from scratch a few times to try to combat this error. I even moved my attempts to Azure from my typical hosting to try it out.
Is there something I am missing? I am confused because this should be a simple launch of vanilla minecraft. I can get minecraft 1.5.2 to launch with no error but who wants to play on something that old?
in my download I was going off of a post I found online saying that the versions of server were listed as minecraft.version#.jar. maybe they do not do that anymore?
Anyway I found a way to get it to work using the following.
Hello everyone,
I am working on my first multiplayer server build. I am running ubuntu, java 1.7.0_95, and minecraft 1.7.10.
Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile minecraft.jar
How I am installing.
DOWNLOAD (either seems to work)

Thank you!

Okay so I think I have found a solution.

This launcher seems to work just fine. (make sure to agree to the eula.txt stuff!)
