So, I've basically tried for over 2 hours now to allocate more RAM to my Forge server. I've watched Youtube videos, read a ton of forum posts, but still I am coming up short. What everyone is telling me is that I'm to make a batch file containing the following:
which will then allocate 2GB of ram to the server. "mcforge.jar" is the name of the server jar which I've renamed. Now what I think the problem is is that when I launch this .bat-file, the path is always set to "C:\Windows\system32" in the command prompt. I feel like a total idiot not knowing how to change or fix this, but hell I've tried. A lot. I'd be incredibly happy if someone could give me a reason to facepalm!
Well, it looks to me like it has around 450-500mb cause that's when the server overloads/crashes. I'd like it to use 14GB of ram since i have a dedicated server I don't know if that would be smart or even possible.
If you computer is 64, how much ram does it have? In my opinion you should only allow it to use one below half of your ram... For example, if your PC has 6 GB of ram you should only allow 2 GB, unless your PC does not do anything but run the server then I guess you could allow as much as you want, but to avoid issues the max you should allow (if you have 6 GB like the example) is 4 GB because your OS still needs ram and all the other programs.
Hello.
So, I've basically tried for over 2 hours now to allocate more RAM to my Forge server. I've watched Youtube videos, read a ton of forum posts, but still I am coming up short. What everyone is telling me is that I'm to make a batch file containing the following:
PAUSE

How much ram is it booting with? 2GB and you want more or less than 2GB even though you set it to 2GB?

Well I don't know anything about forge servers but the I'm pretty sure the ram process is the same for all kinds...
1st I need to ask you a few questions about your computer:
What OS is your computer running? If it's windows I can help... If it's a different one I can't because I have only used windows.
(Side question: if your PC is windows what version is it? The pages I have put here are for windows 7 but I think it's the same for all versions)
If your PC is windows, Is your computer 32 bit or 64? If it's 32 you can not add more ram because 32 Java only allows 1GB.
Here is how to find out if your windows PC is 32 or 64 bit

last question, if your PC is 64 bit do you have the 64 bit version of Java? Because it you don't it only will allow 1 GB
Here is the download page for Java 64 bit.
This is the perfect guide:

that is actually what I read and how I know all this XD
it is on the bukkit page but it works for all kinds of servers!
Hope this helps! if you need anymore help just let me know!
