Hey all. So my friends and I have been able to play in our own little vanilla world. Some of us play on Mac and some of us play on Windows. However, the biggest problem is that we're only able to play only if I am at home and have everything set up. Is there a way for my friends to access the server world without me having to leave my computer on when I'm away?
Right now, we're using Hamachi to be able to access our server. I tried the port forwarding thing (port 25565) but I never could get it correct. So what I'm doing right now is basically, launching the minecraft_server.1.8.8.jar file, and then opening up Hamachi. Then my friends and I play in the world.
The sad truth is you can't really host a server without either keeping your PC turned on or having a host.
Here you will find hosts which offer 24/7 (or somewhat along the lines of that) hosting, so you can come and go as you wish. I know it costs money, but unfortunately this is reality so maybe you and your friends can get together and get a small server for all of you to play on.
Considering it's just you and your friends, and you're using the Vanilla server you don't need a server which costs $80 per month for 8GB with SSD storage. You can have a simple 512mb/1GB server which will do its job and won't be too bad on the budget. Like personally, I have a dev server with Bisect Hosting (not affiliated) which is $3 for a month, not a lot when you think about it.
If you need help with hosts feel free to ask on the forums or pm anyone, and most of the time, they'll be happy to help.
