Trying to get my custom modpack to work on a server for me and a couple of friends. It said I need NEI and I went and checked the log to see which mod needed it. It says CodeChickenCore needs NEI. First of all, I thought it was the other way around- NEI needed CodeChickenCore. At least I thought.. Second, isn't NEI completely client-side? It won't work on a server, will it?
Please help me; there's nothing about this on the web, and I'm completely lost.
EDIT: Just relaunched it, and this time it says Translocator needs it. I didn't change anything from last time. Now I'm even more completely lost on why it's doing this.
Yes, NEI can be installed on a server. Doing so will let you use all the "creative mode" inventory features (gamemode, weather, time, etc.) on the server, as well as some config options summed up here:
A configuration file will be generated in config\NEIServer.cfg containing various configuration options for servers. The config file comments explain the functions. In short it allows you to assign certain functions to be used only by certain players. So you can select who can use OP enchantments etc. There is also a banned blocks section, any blocks that are banned wont show in a user's item panel. Bedrock is banned by default so connected users can't spawn bedrock, (unless you specify their name).

Souls - After you die, a hostile Soul that stores your inventory will spawn.
Auto Refresh - Automatically refreshes your server list and alerts you when your selected server comes online.
Pick Block Plus - A clientside mod that significantly improves the vanilla pick block function.
And a few others that we don't talk about.
