Hello, i've been trying to make my own Minecraft server because I want to play w/ my cousin, anyways its done, but it lags a lot. For example: When I break a block it takes like 2 hours for the block to drop and then 2 hours to grab it, I have a fast computer, I know you have to do something like a .bat file in notepad, but when I open the .bat file it says that it couldnt find the file specified. Please help! I would appreciate any help given!
try using 'localhost' as the server ip when you join.
if it doesn't lag, then it's your internet that's slow.
also, I did make a program in java a little while back that can launch servers, with a little modification I can make a version that can replace your .bat file with it's config file.
[p]To state the obvious: Your server doesn't have enough RAM.[/p]
[p]If you both are on the same network - you could always just open up LAN, but run your client with JVM Arguments giving you plenty of RAM.[/p]
[p]Do you have enough RAM? Always Make Sure To Leave 2+ Gigs of RAM for Your System![/p]
[p] Time to make a Bat File! Make Sure You Are Using Something Like NotePad![/p]
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar forge_server.jar nogui[/pre]
PAUSE[/pre] First specify where your java is located, "-Xmx<InputMaxRAM> -Xms<InputMinRAM> -jar <WhicheverJarIsBeingUsed> nogui <--Disables the Gui that usually pops up. Not needed, but is helpful. [/p]
java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar forge_server.jar nogui[/pre]
Enter in your variables, then click "Save As" name it something like: "Start_Server" and put ".bat" at the end!
Hopefully that gives you an idea of what you need to work with![/pre]

If I have helped you, Up-Rank(Thank) my answer so that others may know which is correct.
Mr_Dem, he has clearly stated he has attempted to make a .bat file. That is why I have modified my program to be able to replace the need for a .bat file, or a .sh on mac/linux (or whatever it is for them).
you can download the program here if you want to give it a try. (make sure to put it in the same directory as the server files, and change the jar file specified in the generated helper.txt to the name of your server jar)
EDIT: hang on got something wrong in the program, let me fix it
EDIT: It's all fixed now. It will auto-generate the helper.txt file. DO NOT remove the lines explaining how it all works, it won't work if you do that (for now!).
