There are no alternatives that you should waste your time with.
Iron farms can work with Spigot. Hosting a private server will use internet no matter what you do. You are basically running minecraft for everyone whos playing on your server and giving them priority.
Consider renting a cheap host so you use someone else equipment. You can snag a server good enough to hold 3-5 people for $10. Shop around.

We have rebuilt our iron farm (iron Titan) four times using spigot and the villages always merge. Is there something in the config file that would change this?
I looked more into this "issue" with Iron Golems and Spigot. If your platform choice is based heavily on Iron Golem farms, it looks like Spigot isn't the right choice. In an effort to save mass resources, Spigot doesn't like the Villager setups that spread like a virus.
Sorry if I wasted your time by talking up Spigot. There are so many benefits to Spigot. Apparently making massive Golem farms is a downside. I like this feature on my server because ANY massive spawning system = LAG!
Hello,
I currently host a small private server, and I'm looking for an alternative to spigot/bukkit. There are a few things I would like it to have:
1. Allows iron titans/other 1.8 iron farms to work.
2. Works in 1.8+
3. Doesn't make my internet run super slowly*
*I need this because when I ran it on vanilla no one could use our internet.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Set3
Bukkit? there really isn't much else out there yet
