I spent so long installing and configuring plugins and people cant join. Help?
everything I did, in order:
Made a server folder titled Minecraft 1.8 Server
Download the craftbukkit 1.8 file
Moved craftbukkit 1.8 to the folder
make the start.bat folder with this code:
java -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit-1.8-R0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar -o true
PAUSE
renamed the craftbukkit file from where it said -latest so It is not latest anymore
ran the start.bat
files came in
changed EULA to true
ran start.bat again
error comes up, says I have something running on the port (25565) already, so I change the port to 25515
run server again
everything came up fine
I have windows 8 64bit PC plenty of RAM
I did portforward, firewall is disabled.. No one else can join my server.
HERE IS HOW I PORTFORWARDED: (I use netgear)
Service Name: MC
Service Type: TCP/UDP
External Starting Port: 25515
External Ending Port: 25515
( then I checkmarked a box that says "use the same port range for internal port" )
Internal Starting Port: 25515
Internal Ending Port: 25515
Internal IP Adress: ( I went to CMD, typed in ipconfig, found wireless LAN adapter, found Ip4 address and typed that in )
then clicked Apply. did I do this right? if so, why cant others join?

Does the server recognize when a player attempts to join it? Server log would be definitely help.
What is the ip you are giving everyone? If it starts with "192.168", then you're giving them the wrong IP. You have two different IP addresses, one is internal (for people on your network) and external (for people who are not on your network). 192.168 is the most commonly used starting value for internal ip addresses. There is also this nifty website which allow you to see your external ip, and you can also specify a port (such as 25565) to see if it is reachable from an outside network.
No messages at all. sorry. is there still a solution?
If the console doesn't even have a message when somebody tried to join then they aren't properly connecting to your server. Check the internet connection of the computor running your server.
Also, check to see if you can connect localhost by running Minecraft from the computer in which your server is hosted, and entering localhost into the IP slot.
First, can you log onto the server using the address 98.165.191.25:25515? If you can only connect using LOCALHOST...then there is still something blocking your port. Be aware that you need to port forward in your antivirus as well as your modem/router. If you drop your antivirus for a few minutes...most will allow you to do this...try to connect using the 98.165.191.25:25515 address. If you can, then you need to port forward in your antivirus software. Try that and see if it helps. There are websites that will check your ports and respond whether it is open or not...portforward.com is one that can help, has lots of information about how to port forward in routers and antivirus software...good luck!

How do I check bullet 1 and bullet 2 on the link you sent me? (how to check if MC client same as server) (how to check if network interface card driver up to date) ? those are the only 2 that could possibly be the issue from that list.

when I join I type localhost:25515
also I have full wifi all bars and im running on pretty good wifi
Now try replacing localhost with your IP4 address. Does that work?
when people try to join, on their PC it says java.netexception conection timed out

when using ip4 it says Inernal Exception io.netty.handler.timeout.ReadTimeoutException
why do I need that link if my wifi is fine
nevermind hold on im reading
Use this website to check your port to see if it is open-->
http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
All you have to do is put the port number in the box and click CHECK..it takes a few seconds and lets you know if it is open.

I believe bullet one is refering to the version of Minecraft you are using
As for bullet two, here is a link to a page that instructs you in how to check this.
I talked to a friend that had issues with netgear equipment and port-forwarding, might help if you disable uPnP in your router.
the tut is for earlier versions of windows, I use windows 8
also the tut appears to be super complicated... no way I can do this
