Hey there MC forums! On the server that I moderate, for the last few hours we've been having frame rate lag problems around spawn. We haven't found any kind of lag machines or animal farms. At this point we think it might be corrupted chunks.
A few things that may help with determining the problem:
- It only started today, about 4 or 5 hours ago from me posting this.
- The lag is only effect the east and south east parts of spawn. Sometimes even looking in this direction can cause lag. Looking the opposite direct, however, lessens the lag.
- There are buildings under the main spawn building: One of said buildings was made out of silverfish bricks, but have since been replace. There is also a large area under spawn that for the most part, does not seem to be effect by the lag (I've added a screenshot of this one)
- There seems to be no lag above Y = 122. Same thing goes for anything below Y= 14

Chunks get corrupted in their entirety, not partially. Had the chunks been corrupted, you would have been having problems through every height. (Chunks are 16x16x256, a chunk is unlikely be giving you problems within a certain height range)
Although it is a good theory, wouldn't it have to be on going thought? Like, wouldn't the lag have to have started we we first started using our map? (I should also mention that this is a vanilla server)

Chunks get corrupted in their entirety, not partially. Had the chunks been corrupted, you would have been having problems through every height. (Chunks are 16x16x256, a chunk is unlikely be giving you problems within a certain height range)
