I'm currently running a server on minecraft 1.8.1, and I need something to automatically backup my server. I've been doing it manually, but I just messed something up on my server, and lost a bunch of progress because the last backup was 2 days ago. I would use bukkit, but bukkit only goes up to 1.7.10. I'm currently running the server on a Mac, so any suggestions have to be Mac compatible. Any help is much appreciated :).
Create a script (step4) that will create a tar gunzip file (step2) and will automatically title it $DATE-backup.tar.gz (step3) every "X" hours (step1).

You can use spigot (a bukkit alternative) which works with minecraft 1.8, and works with all bukkit plugins.

Step 1) Cronjob
Step 2) Tarball
Step 3) Date
Step 4) Shell Script

Need a backup of your backup? Utilize this.
