Hi, I'm try to run a server for my friends and I but I would like to give it more ram? I've seen many videos on youtube but none of which work... So I need your help, my computer has 8Gb of ram and it's a 64x bit processor and I use Hamachi to get the IP address, I'm running minecraft vanilla 1.7.4 server. So any answer???
Ok thank you, but I don't have a .bat file, I normally just start the *minecraft_server.1.7.4* program, so could you give me the hole command to write in the .bat file?

Open Notepad, and type, without quotes, "java -jar (file name here).exe -Xms1G -Xmx2G" . Click "Save As..." navigate to your server folder, click where it says save as Text Document and change it to All Files (*.*) then save it as the name start.bat or something along those lines. After that, double click start.bat and it will start with more ram.
Ok so I tried your command like this "java -jar minecraft_server.1.7.4.exe -Xms2G -Xmx3G" without the quotes and it does nothing, cmd starts but nothing else... help?
First of all, sorry for the big delay with the response, I am currently very busy with school work and stuff, so I don't have that much time left for personal affaires. Second of all, you can't just copy the cmd text, so you can find a screenshot of it within this message, also my computer is in french, so unless you read french, I don't think this will help us...

It seems you didn't include -jar or minecraft_server.1.7.4.exe. Also, sorry for my slightly late reply (if this is considered late, lol), I'm working on school as well, although it helps for me that it's a web school.
Edit: almost forgot, when you get it working it runs in a separate window like when you just double click, and if you have any more errors you can copy/paste them from that into spoiler tags

could you post us your start up script?
the problem is that with this version of the server, it doesn't show anything except the memory use and the average tick...
In your startup.bat file [or whatever its named, it will be the only .bat file in there] just replace the part of "java -Xmsstuffhere etc" with this
java -XmsminVarM -XmxmaxVarM (IE Min .5 GB | max 1 GB, "java -Xms512M -Xmx1024M" )
OR
java -XmsminVarG -XmxmaxVarG (IE Min 1GB | max 1.5 GB, "java -Xms1G -Xmx1.5G" )
Where M = Megabytes
Where G = Gigabytes
Where minVar = The minimum amount of ram (IE, " java -Xms1024M -XmxmaxVARM ")
Where maxVar = The maximum amount of ram (IE, " java -XmsminVarM -Xmx1024M ")
***Color codes are only representing variables and numbers, will not actually be used in .bat file***

Ok so here, I tried it like you said and still doesn't work.... Any ideas?
if you are not going to post a paste bin of your startup script then how can we help you?
What is the EXACT thing your server file is named? Also, is the start file in the folder with the minecraft server file?
the exact name is: "minecraft_server.1.7.4" that's the same name i've been using from the start
and yes the .bat file is in the same folder as the server and everything
