Here is a little back-story:
The server i am talking about is part of a network of servers and i only own that one particular server
When i first got the server i got some help like
i know how to go all the way into the server directory but i don't get how to pull up the server's console
I did it before but I forgot how to do ti
Also the server runs on ubuntu if that helps

So you can't access your server console but you can access SSH right. (And you'd think people using SSH would know how to do these things) Sorry I'm abit cynical.
Anyway..
The fact that you can access the server console at will rules out nohup.
So my guess is that you are using a screen
1) Log onto the SSH server
2) Type screen -ls
3) See which screen session probably relates to your server
4) Type screen -r NAME, replacing NAME with the session's name, or ID if there a two (or more) sessions with the same name
ls: The ls command will show you ('list') the files in your current directory. Used with certain options, you can see sizes of files, when files were made, and permissions of files. Example: "ls ~" will show you the files that are in your home directory.
cd: The cd command will allow you to change directories. When you open a terminal you will be in your home directory. To move around the file system you will use cd. Examples:
To navigate into the root directory, use "cd /"
To navigate to your home directory, use "cd" or "cd ~"
To navigate up one directory level, use "cd .."
To navigate to the previous directory (or back), use "cd -"
Whether or not the server isn't running or not isn't the primary issue, though of course if the server is not running, then the screen/tmux session isn't running.
@Super808, have you tried doing any of the above suggestions (Like you know, first and second replies...)

If the server is running in tmux rather than screen, then the proper command to reattach is "tmux attach-session"
