for awhile now, i have been trying to get an LAN network working. Today, i have successfully got that to happen. My only problem now is that when i host a LAN game, the other computers on the same network can see it, but they cant connect to it. all that happens is that it starts to connect, waits awhile, and then says: (Failed to connect to server. java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information.) i am running on WIndows 8, minecraft version 1.8.1 and have tried earlier versions on both. the other computer is on windows 7 and that shouldn't be a problem. and have allowed the firewall to access and work though the game. Both computers have these settings and are on the same network but i cannot connect. help?
Make sure you're using two different premium accounts. If you are on the PC(Windows only) type "cmd" in the start menu. When the prompt comes up type "ipconfig" then hit enter. Scroll until you find your wireless LAN adapter IPv4 adress. Have the other PC on the network type that in direct connect with a colon following. Should look something like this "192.168.0.(varies):. Then simply open the world to LAN and have your friend/family type the 5 numbers that pop up in chat then try to join.
