I've tried everything from java and graphics card updates, to system and router restarts. I've tried disabling firewalls and even joining a server that had Online-Mode disabled. Any server I join's console spits out this message when I get kicked: "[Disconnect] User BratrilliantG7 has disconnected, reason: TranslatableComponent{key='disconnect.genericReason', args=[Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: The received string length is longer than maximum allowed (12 > 7)], siblings=[], style=Style{hasParent=false, color=null, bold=null, italic=null, underlined=null, obfuscated=null, clickEvent=null, hoverEvent=null, insertion=null}}"
I can't figure out what is 12 characters long that should only be 7, and I know it's not my username (BratrilliantG7) because that is 14 characters long.
As expected, SSP still works fine and I can log out and log back in to the Minecraft Launcher just fine, so I am utterly clueless. Anybody have any suggestions?
Notes on my system in case it helps:
Minecraft Version 1.8 (unmodded, default textures. All servers I join are 1.8 as well, before you even ask.)
Windows 7 (64x)
Java 1.7.0_67 (64x)
4GB RAM
AMD Quad-core 3.6Ghz
Apparently my launcher profile was corrupted or something, as when I tried a run minecraft through a new profile, it worked fine.
For anyone who may be having this issue on the PC version of minecraft, a simple fix is to delete the launcher_profiles.json in your .minecraft folder and have the launcher generate a new one for you.
Hours of web-searching, re-downloading, and re-installing just for something so dumb to be the issue.
Carry on.
