Hello everyone. I am hosting a private Minecraft 1.8 server for my friends in real life, and I need to set up the whitelist. However, with the white-list on, and my username with all my friends' usernames on the whitelist, it says for everyone, "You are not white-listed on this server!" I've had this problem for a while even in 1.7.10, hoping Mojang would fix the problem in 1.8. But they have yet to do so. And I see other 1.8 servers with their whitelists working, and I have no idea how they did it. Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance.
Yes, this does work for a little while. So at first, I set the whitelist to false, then went into the game and turned the whitelist on. Then I realized me and my best friend weren't opped, so I opped myself and him. Then I remembered that ops can connect to the server whether they're on the whitelist or not, so then I de-opped myself to check and see if people that aren't opped can still get on. But, to no avail! I'm still stuck.
I have tried resetting the whitelist by deleting the whitelist.json and txt files. Adding/removing the whitelisted user (MYSELF!)... turning whitelist off for a while, turning it back on, etc. Every time it claims I'm not whitelisted. I do not want anyone to be able to connect except those I whitelist PERIOD.

2. Restart Server
3. It Should change the white-list back to false
4. Change it to true again
5. Restart
6. Make sure to restart every time you add new names to the whitelist
Hope this helped!

I can't join my friend server because you are not white-listed on this server
