Hey, alright I have been researching since the update on how to fix this but nothing has worked for me.
My girlfriend and I play via LAN through my router (offline). It has worked perfectly until this update, as soon as I finished the install on both pcs (windows), I opened to LAN and when she tried to connect we got; "Failed to login: The authentication servers are currently down for maintenance. ". Ok so I checked mojangs status, fine. I went through both firewalls, fine. I ran the ipconfig and double checked by directly connecting, nothing. I tried hosting on her pc, nope.
I ran AOE just to check if it was the router but we could connnect fine. I then tried to lan via my internet connection, I opened and then tried connecting on my client pc and I got: java.connection error everytime. I updated both java platforms (both pcs 64 bit) but that didn't fix it.
I followed a few posts on here and on redditt but to no avail, so as a last resort im relying on my trusty mc community, please help!
Same issue:
java.net.connectexception connection refused no further information
Thing is I am running the server from my desktop and attempting to connect locally! Never had issues with this before. In the past whenever I have had connection issues I usually start troubleshooting from there and work my way outward...(connect with internal ip, connect with wan address etc.)

That doesn't help me. I'm not running a server on my offline network. I open my game to lan but no one can connect and when someone else hosts can't connect to them. All we get is Failed to login: The authentication servers are currently down for maintenance
Making the changes to the eula.txt file didn't work for me either. This is the way my girlfriend and I play so would really like to see a fix. Anyone else find a different solution?
I am having the same problem, but for the server.properties and eula.txt, that is on mojang.com or minecraft.net and their not talking about lan. Their talking about the server.
I really don't know, I'd just tell you to make sure your firewall allows Minecraft, Anti Virus likely turned off for the session then
Press Windows Button -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall -> Advanced Settings -> Look for " Windows Firewall Properties "
On Public & Private Profiles click on Customize at Protected network connections
Untick ALL Adapters you are using, Make sure settings are applied.
Also do this on all the PC's.
If it does not work then I don't know, guess we wait for a fix or someone who actually bothers to try and help us out
