So yeah, just downloaded the exe file, and it won't launch properly. I double click on it, it opens for a quarter of a second, and then quits. Rinse and repeat. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, what's a workaround?
You need to look for EULA.txt text file in the folder where you launched the file in. Change false to true inside of it indicating that you agree to EULA and save the text file.
Okay im having this very annoying problem when trying to setup a server, I open the exe in its respective new folder on my desktop and nothing happens not eula or log files are created a blue loading circle appears next to the cursor for a second and then nothing. on the other hand when i open the jar it works just fine but when after i get the bat created and try to run in cmd pops up and tells me there was an error or something about initiliazing vm which im guessing stands for virtual memory
Place the .jar in a folder that you want your server in(all the files)
Double click the .jar This will generate files after a few seconds. I suggest waiting 45 seconds to make sure all the files generate.
Open a text document and paste:
java -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar -o true PAUSE
Save the file as run.bat (if you are on a windows machine at the bottom where it says save as click the box to say All Files)
If you double click the run.bat file (this is in the folder where youre server is) it will open the server on *.*.*:25565 This means it is a local host. To change the ip go into the server properties file and you can change it to your computers ip.
Bam! you got a server. To log on from the base server on the LAN in Minecraft in the ip type localhost
To find your IP:
For Windows:
Open Command prompt
type ipconfig and press enter
Look for your IPV4 address under the Wireless LAN Adapter for wifi and Ethernet LAN adapter for a wired connection.
This is what goes in your server config.
Your new ip is the one you found :25565 unless you changed the port (the 25565)

hi, i'm having a similar problem where my server log won't open, but it says "failed to bind to port" and then quits before i can type anything. i've tried the run.bat file, but it doesn't make a difference, and my eula.txt is set to true. i've had this server for a couple months, and it's worked before, but for some reason it's stopped working this last week or two. what can i do to get it to open?

Your problem is that your ip changed. What you need to do is open a command prompt (this is for windows) and type in ipconfig. If you are using wifi, your ip will be the one under the ipv4 addres under the wireless LAN section. If you are using a wired connection it will be under the ethernet adapter section.
Because you are using your computer you have a ip that changes depending on what ip your router gives you. Generally it wont change every day but it will neventuallly. when you get the Failed To Bide To Port your ip changed.
It will start fine then.
