They way the revenue from the ads works is (correct me if I'm wrong) from clicks, not views. And the server owners will needs A LOT of clicks to make more than pennies from this service. I understand the servers you are trying to appeal to. I just feel like the smaller servers you are targeting will not be able to actually raise as much money as they need to survive, because they don't have that many people and the ads will be mostly ignored. Where as, a lot more money could be made by bigger servers using this. But bigger servers can typically pay for themselves anyway.
I cannot predict what will happen a year from now, but the numbers of signed up servers to advertisers ratio we are looking at right now show that if a server can get a small number of clicks per day (5-10), every day for a month, they should be able to earn more than enough to keep themselves running (assuming a server with around 2-3gb of ram). So only the really tiny servers of 1-5 people will have trouble earning enough with Adventurize, and even then, every cent counts (and they of course, cost much less to run).
I haven't actually seen the ads so I guess it's hard for me to judge how distracting they are. This makes sense, I wouldn't mind seeing something small if I knew it would help the server.
Maybe you could post some example ads on this OP of this topic?
It would be my pleasure! This is just a sample ad image I had laying around, but it gives you an idea of what they really look like. Since they are displayed within the chat box, this would of course fade away from your screen after a few moments. So not overly bothersome.

That looks really good. Not distracting (because I can always turn chat off) but still easy to notice. And the best part of it is that this form of making money from the server is allowed by the new EULA.
With the new EULA in place I see a huge rise in this type of service. Seriously, this is going to be the best way to make money now. No one wants to pay before joining a server because they don't know if they will like it. And no one will donate if they can't receive any special treatment because of it. Big servers can no longer sell in-game currency and restrict access to the game.
The next time I start any type of server I am adding this service before anything else.
It would be nice if this had permissions support. Then servers could add "no advertisements" to premium ranks. If this feature were added the service would be much more appealing.
Because the ads are purely visual and not game altering, selling is ad free experience is completely in compliance with the new EULA. I think over all it would help this service reach more people.

Hi WorldWideWicket,
We completely agree with you, the ability to offer an ad-free experience for your paying members is essential. We made sure we built the original system around that idea, and the major update coming soon will not alter that philosophy. Simply add the "adventurize.hideads" permission to the donator/membership user groups and you should be all set.
I'm afraid we are still hard at work on the overhaul, and ads have been paused until its release. We have added some new members to the team in order to speed it up, and are working around the clock to get ads and revenue heading your way ASAP. Thank you for your continued patience!

It might be in there favor just not mine I use forge and it will not be forge compatible. At lest not by the first of the month. I hate ads though so would not want to force it on player players + this will most likely force the server admin to have to view the ads as well unless they pay such and such price.
Unless they have like enter your game name here when you sign up or something so ads auto get disabled for the owner.

No server owners don't have to view the ads as well. When you make groups just give the people you dont want to see ads a specific permission. the premium charge is for people on the server to pay the owner, not the owner to pay adventurize.
I just installed the plugin a few days ago, and I haven't seen advertisements show up yet. I saw a post earlier that you guys are doing some work, but nothing is stated on the site. Kinda misleading to those looking at the site, might want to put up a notification to those who are logged in at least.
Also, a couple suggestions.
Assuming the timer starts counting as soon as the server starts. A way to force what times of the hour the advertisements appear? I have a 10 minute interval Tips message that appear (random message from a list of tips), which is set to appear every 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and top of the hour. Though it's unlikely that the advertisements appear at nearly the same time of the tips, I'd like to set a way to force it to appear on every 5, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55. I would set the timer to 15, but it could overlap with the tips every other time. This is assuming if the server is started/restarted on a close hour interval with the timed messages.
A possible command to run to see a random advertisement. If anything, with a cool down so no one could cause issues.

You could just disable the announcement plugin for 5 minutes, then start it again....

Hi Liger_XT5,
Thank you for your suggestions, they are most appreciated!
I can see how such a plugin feature could be useful - we will add it to the to-do list.
As for the website, we will be posting a notification informing users of the system status shortly.
I really think this is an amazing project, but it's one of those hit and miss ideas. I see that you already have a few clients (Myself included) but who knows what the situation will be in 6 months time. Great job anyways.

Especially with the recent EULA update, more and more signs are pointing to it being a hit. We will be doing everything in our power to make it so.
Hey, any idea if the update will be done by the end of July? I start school mid-August and would like to restart me server with this in the summer when more people are playing ( I had to shut down my server due to lack of funds, I waited till summer, thought that might bring more donations, then the whole EULA thing killed my server). I am REALLY excited for this overhaul to be done because then that will bring SOO much more funds to keep my server running.
Last time I had Adventurize in january, there were only 2 advertisers, paying $3 total per day. I was getting around $0.60 per day (so 20% of total money), If all 10 bidding slots were filled with the minimum possible, so $1,$2,3,4,5......$10 then that would be a total of $55. If I was still earning 20%, then that would be $11 per day!!!. Ok, but lets assume if the advertisers went from 2 to 10, then the server amount also increased 5 fold. that is still $2.20 per day, OR $66 per month, as my server costs are ~$40 a month, that would not only help, but lead to some profit
Very sorry to hear about your server, our team is working as hard as possible to get the overhaul completed and the earnings into your wallet. I cannot confirm the exact date that the overhaul will be completed, but we are really hoping it will be soon. There have been numerous delays, and we apologize for that. We will keep everyone notified.
