Oh BTW, zee DDoSed McBans the other day, he had it nullrouted in 5 minutes. I heard from a friend and hopped right onto the IRC + Mumble to hear the live news feed of McBans being pwned.
Some more proof McBans is crap is that Crashdoom (previous McBans employee) left / was fired (not sure which) from McBans, now he can be constantly found in irc.teamavolition.com IRC chat (for those that can't be bothered to figure it out that's Team Avolition's IRC). He also posts on Team Avolition's Forums.
While MCBans is about as shitty as shitty gets (coming from someone who is a player, admin, and plugin developer), calling glizer unbiased is completely untrue. You can be given a global ban reputation of -100 (as banned as you can possibly be) simply for using their plugin on an offline server. Plus I have beef with them calling their plugin "open source," but refusing to distribute the source of any version less than 8 months old.

Running the plugin in offline mode violates their terms of use. That wouldn't be 'bias' anyway, who would they be being biased in favour of?
PandazNWafflez, that's quite an interesting essay you've made. I have seen unimaginable kinds of immaturity and selfishness, but nothing as awful as what you described. I appreciate that you took the time to organize and write that, and it makes me glad that there are people like you who care about the security and rights of others even in what appears to be a simple videogame.

Bias against people who did nothing to deserve a ban from all glizer servers? You're right, it was a poor word choice on my part. My major point is that any "global ban system" that is managed by people with the power to ban people they don't like with no consequences will abuse it nine times out of ten, or greater. No global ban system is appropriate for being managed in such a manner, and almost as few people are competent enough to utilize such a system in the manner it was meant to be used. If a global ban system must be used, I could only recommend MCBouncer with any clarity of conscience. They also have a relatively sane way to handle servers that attempt to use offline-mode.

McBouncer is made and used by Reddit's MC Public servers, therefore it is unusable by me and many other people (as in it's hated, not we're banned from it or something). However I do agree that Glizer has it's flaws.

I didn't write most of it. I just compiled the knowledge from different sources. Mainly copy and pasted tbh.
MCbans plugin is more of an annoyance than of any use to anyone.

I wouldn't be butthurt about a server running MCBans banning you automatically. What you need to do is find a server that doesn't suck and can handle their own bans on their own merits.

They're paranoid as **** about the griefing, yet they claim that it doesn't effect them at all
Quote from Azathoth »
MCBans staff are mostly paranoid, so their extreme prejudice towards griefing multiplies collatoral damage like crazy, MCBans sucks because of it.

I am banned from all MCbans servers and I have never even been on one of them. Also says I have a 10/10 rating but whenever I log in to one it just says "Import from MCbans"

I hate mcbans, I don't go on any servers using it.

mcbans sucks. It's funny watching them get butthurt when I bypass it.
Quote from jmlport98 »
McBans is bad because the servers that have the plugin control it. If a server is being a **** to someone they can **** him off even more by unethically banning him with McBans instead of the server's own ban system, making an unjust and unfair ban.

We can all agree MCBans is a lazy admin's way of preventing griefing.

Mcbans is obviously paranoid of anything that has to do with these keywords:
avo, Avo, aVo, Team avo, Team aVo, Team Avo, team avo, team aVo, team Avo, Team Avoliton, team avolition, Team avolition, team Avolition, grief, Grief, troll, trolling, trolled, trolls
The majority of the thing is, McBans is put into the hands of those who don't know how to use it properly. There needs to be a bit stricter protocol on who can use it.
McBans is just a retarded attempt to blacklist players from the community. People will often local ban people based on other global and local bans, even if they haven't done anything.
There is nothing in the Minecraft ToS that states griefing is disallowed, and McBans should hence be deleted.

here is my problem with that. I've had the same minecraft server running for 2+ years, that I would go on and play in private. I just recently made it public a few months ago to let others come on and have some fun. forgive me if this is out of line, but griefers can go to hell. I use mcbans because a better service doesn't exist. I put a lot of time and work into running my own server. I don't want losers coming on and destroying my hard work and giving me a head ache. if someone has caused trouble on another server, then fine, I don't want them on my own server, end of story.
ive got something to add to this, i was unfairly banned from a server with mcbans because i killed the owner in a pvp (it was a pvp server) and he had diamonds on him the reason was: Being a ****.
so now i have a ban on record on every server with mcbans its very unfair

But most of the time the bans are fake, especially if you have it so anyone with one ban is not allowed on your server. The McBans admins ban any alternate accounts used by griefing teams, rendering thousands of legitimate players banned.
i really hate mcbans, i got a permaban after ONLY 1 global which only deducted .83 REP. Now my rep is 0. Explain to me how this is possible?!!!!! I contacted them over and over again and they refused to help!
Someone put that I griefed and was perma banned from a server, while I have never been perma banned. A whole server hated me becasue of these lies. The only time I have ever been bad was when an admin was hitting me in a game, and when I hit him back I got temp banned. Whenever a server mentions and takes mcbans seriously, I quit them.

I would hardly go the line to say that using MCBans automatically makes someone a bad administrator. It, like any other plugin, is a tool, and should be treated as such. You cannot let McBans run your server, which is unfortunately what some people have stooped to.
However, as a tool of reference and lookup when you are dealing with a situation of your own judgement and accord, it is a good source of evidence when you are banning someone with 7 bans of the same reason on another server. It should be used as a tool of reference, nothing more.
Also the online banlist is kinda nice, then again most global ban systems have it.
I agree with everyone, MCBans can be stupid. As Amber said, it's a tool. I would rather prevent griefing on my server than have it be wrecked by people with no lives. The people that run it are corrupt, that's a true story. I wish it wouldn't be this way, it's exactly why I don't use it myself. If I have a trouble maker on my server, fine, so be it. I'll just personally make sure to IP ban them.
I don't use McBans, but I'd like to debate this. Someone sets their password to "password123," it gets cracked and numerous griefers use the account. If using the McBans plugin will get rid of, say, 8 griefers at the expense of 1 legitimate player, then is it not worth it? By allowing those griefers on your server they would have ruined the experience of more than 1 regular legitimate player on the server, therefore the overall payoff of using it would outweigh the payoff of not using it.
Actually no. Now any account that has more than 5 IPs logging in in 24 hours is migrated and the email has to be used to log in. Therefore this never happens any more, but the accounts that WERE compromised but aren't even used to grief any more are still banned.

Zidonuke was an Avolition team member for some time. He hacked a server to obtain Admin and worked on their client.
So does McBans in honestly. We aren't really talking about the morons who use it. More the retards who run it (see the IRC logs I posted).

You mad about that?
EDIT: Sos Amber, teamavolition.com background carried into my post when I was copying and pasting.
I agree as well.
One of the major problems is that the amount of fake bans takes ages to go through, and some bans can have forged evidence.
This is very true. McBans is extremely retarded.
