I personally like MCBans a lot. Idk about the whole email thing from the long 2nd/3rd post; i got bored and stopped reading honestly. Though I do understand where players who have been banned via the MCBans plugin have issue with unjust **** bans as well as immediate bans for bans they have already have.
But like any plugin its really just comes down to the maturity of the Server Staff that is using it. We have used MCBans on our servers for about 2 years now I think. There are probably many disputable bans from our early servers, but now we do make effort to do proper bans. When players grief we take pics of the damages and post them with their bans normally. Also we have our server set up so only Admins have the Global Ban ability, while mods are able to use the local ban and kick. We have within the so many months have set up jails to help/hope of cutting down on the need to ban players.
The best way to combat unjust bans and what you feel is improper handling of the Plugin is to create an account on MCBans find the server that banned you and submit an Appeal. Good servers will Utilize the ability to upload 'Proof' like in-game shots or Server logs; as well as the use of Logblock or Hawkeye (or other Block Logging plugins).
My Unjust Ban
I know awhile ago I logged onto a server and it stated I had a ban on MCBans, which was a WTF? because at that time I had not played Minecraft for about a month or two. I had a global ban from a server I had never been on. At the time I only ever played on one server, maybe looked at some others but never stayed. Later found out it was a player from one of our old servers, who I had not banned, but was y or something. A friend eventually located him on the server he did the ban on and talked to him. He apologized and removed it. We all still play the same server's from time to time.
So I do understand how people feel with unjust bans such as that, especially when you get them for Servers you have never even been on
That was over a Year ago though, so I doubt at that time if I hadn't known the player who had done it, I do not think that would of been resolved. But again now when something like that happens, you are able to Dispute and make an Appeal as I said above.
Early to Current MCBans Right/Wrong/Alternative Admining
Also on our early servers, as Staff, it is a Red Flag to see people with previous bans. Especially when they are for griefing. So early servers (about a year ago) we would definitely hold bias towards those players who had bans already. I think it was possible some local bans were issued on those that had too many bans. I'm not sure honestly. Though I did ask a couple players to leave the server when they had Matching 'clan' IGNs as well as about 3-4 bans each. I just simply watched them at spawn and asked them to please leave, and after about 10 minutes they left and never came back. That was when the staff was starting to become seasoned and mature I guess, trying to make alternatives to banning people outright.
[Current Methods] Though most if not all of our admins, even myself, usually use the /lookup [player] command for MCBans to read the bans. We also normally just watch them for a certain amount of time when they first join the server as well as check them from time to time. Normally, at least I find, that people will grief with in the first 30 minutes to an hour of joining a server if they intend to grief.
Recent Global Ban/Dispute:
I had a Ban Dispute a few months ago from a Player who did in fact grief our server. He had dug up some road and removed coal ore that was part of a building. One of our admins followed him around and took snapshots of the damages as well as snapshots with Logblock details in them. He later made a dispute on the MCBans site, which I saw the notification on the server. I had already cataloged the ban proof with the bans. So I just resubbmitted them on my reply. His ban was found to be Valid.
Summary and New Idea
Really it all just comes down to Human Interaction as well as Staff Maturity with All Administrative Plugins. Good Admins are Made. whether it is from their own trial and error; or Owners and Senior Server Staff taking time to train or lead by example for new Mods/Admins. Though there are some who are great/mature admins without needing time or training. Though I've been Admin for a friend's (He was the first owner of my first server I ever played on about 2 years ago) servers (countless maps and many servers later); I still can make mistakes and can make overzealous bans. Can't be a great to perfect Admin 24/7 (everyone has other stuff goin on); but we can work to at least fix those mistakes we have made.
Maybe instead of everyone always complaining about the MCBans system as well as any other Banning Plugin, etc. We should change the discussion and move it towards Teaching one another how to be a Better Mod or Admin. Even a better Owner. Start a discussion on how to utilize different tools on the internet and plugins to have proper evidence to make Just bans.
So I'll leave with this to hopefully start off a New Discussion and maybe even make a new post.
Better MCBans use:
1. Use /lookup [player] to view previous player offenses (if any)
2. Watch or Check on player from time to time if you feel said player is a risk.
- Plugins like Vanishnopacket (Vanish) can allow your staff to become invisible which allows for easier surveillance
- Also I suggest you make it a Rule for your Staff not to Troll to heavily with it or disable interactions when vanished.
3. If Player is found rule breaking:
- Stress that your Staff needs to take snapshots with F2 for ban Proof first.
- Have the chat up when you use LogBlock (other Logging Plugin) when using F2 for chat log Proof
- Then perform Ban (local or global depending on MCBans proper ban system)
4. Upload Pictures/snapshots for Ban Proof to said player to MCBans.
Now, MCBans has a area in the control panel/database thing, where you can add your staff to the Server MCBan profile as well as give them permissions. Such as the ability to upload pics to bans or change bans around from local to global. If Owners of servers set this up so their Admins, maybe not all but their Seasoned ones, can upload pics to the bans they issue as well as others. This will help greatly to reduce weak/unjust bans.
Also for lower Admins or Mods that are not allowed access to MCBans or whatever the issue appears to be. There is a tool called Dropbox. You can sign up for free as well as get 2GB of storage space free when you join. All you need is an email as well as everyone on your staff you plan to have use it. You can Download it to your desktop, it will appear as a folder saying dropbox, or just access it from your My computer. Dropbox is an Online Storage Space program/tool. Once you have set it up you can log in to your online account and create a new folder. Name it and use it to share files with your staff such as screenshots of rule breaking. Also you get more space the more people you share folder/folders with.
There is more info and a proper tutorial on the Dropbox site. Again it is free and quite easy to use. Though this is just one tool you can use. If you find another that suits you then use it.
I was banned from a (crappy) 10 player server my friend gave to me. The best part - it had McBans. I had another guy from my server join it, and we started spamming chat. One guy was apperantly co-owner, but there wasn't a permissions plugin or anything to identify OPs. He had McBans do /kick everytime I logged in. Then, I logged on my other account, did some stuff, and got banned. Then sometime later, I joined and griefed. I griefed the unprotected city, made some swastikas, stole diamonds, etc. etc., then told a guy I'd griefed and god banned for "Nazism".

MCBans is a professional banning solution. In the config.yml file, you can specify how low a player rep can be before they are not allowed on the server, and get kicked upon log in. Or, you can disable this feature. Local bans are the ban of choice, or a temporary ban. The bans that affect your rep are called 'global bans', and they are monitored by the MCBans staff. If a server global bans you for no reason, you can appeal it on their website. If the appeal is won by you, the server looses rep. Once a server looses enough REP, they no longer may use the MCBans plugin. If you don't like what servers are doing with the plugin, tell the MCBans staff. They will look after it.

You only can appeal for a certain time. Did you forget to check. Your rep is permantly damaged.
MC bans is one of the best sites to give info about players and ect.
Its the perfect punishment for client side hackers.
Get it stright that the servers already have an problem of catching x-rayers and ect. They dont need you causeing more problems for them
I prefer the use of local banning systems when administrating servers as it is easier and quicker to deal with false bans, corruption, etc. Another thing I've seen is fake launchers cracking accounts. These accounts are then used to grief, leaving the original owner banned wrongful without even knowing.
Conclusion: some flaws could be fixed, though it is still a great service for many organized servers.

McBans will not run on cracked servers for that reason, and if someone has your password, then your an idiot and need a better password.
Local bans are easier for some circumstances, and I think they are a lot easier for the staff of my server, however, I will up local bans to global bans, and sometimes do global bans as the Administrator, because I know that the ban is Proper and will stay. I think that it is also a good way to see a person's history, and their other bans, as well as myself being able to share those bans.
Hello. About 1 month ago, my friend told me about this awesome plugin called "McBans" He said. You should use it, as it will solve all of our grief problems. This person in question is TitanicAce, One of my loyal admins and friends. I installed the plugin, and he told me how to gain rep and beat people in disputes. I got the hang of it. But shortly after this person called quagmire1234569 disputed his ban over my server. My server was disabled. Now The more I read about McBans' past. I am shocked on how terrible it is. Here are some things I found. 1- Stupid staff members on IRC. 2- Lying to your users about a database hack. 3- And best of all. Doridian. McBans is just a plugin that makes minecraft admins ban happy, Its a plugin that makes people want to hurt other players, and not let them onto other servers. On the other hand. The plugin MCBouncer, there are no "0 rep bans" on there. There are also idiot server owners that ban players because they want to. I once went on an mcbans server (sanzen.in) the admins told me to break a building, then they banned me globally. Seriously... I mean, how many immature administrators are there? And not only did that hurt my reputation, but it hurt my insides too, it hurt my feelings. Why would people want to ban me? For these reasons. I will not request anyone to join mcbans, it is a stupid and childish plugin used for ruining peoples minecraft experence. I quit minecraft in total. Im playing tf2 now.
I should just report it to as many antivirus developers as possible to notify them that there is a severe virus, called MCBans.
I'm joking about that.
But still...
MCBans is basically a system that rewards server owners for creating awesome servers, then creating systems that randomly MCban people for no reason at all. And then if someone wants to dispute, their automatic AI generates fake "proof" to confuse the idiots who moderate MCBans. Of course, I've already lost 3 reputation for being banned for NO REASON AT ALL from Beasts MC. I tell you, that server would've been good if they didn't get MCBans. Now it's completely devilish.
You should just see that server's list of MCBanned users. There are HUNDREDS, repeat, HUNDREDS of PAGES of users who have faced cruel and unusual punishment. Sure, there may have been a few hundred people who were spambots or griefers, but there were hundreds of PAGES of people! Seriously, you can't ban that many users. They have some stupid system that if you accidentally break one block of someone else's design, it quickly swoops in and bans you with "griefing lb proof" with the "proof" having some bot take a snapshot of the area that was "griefed" with some weird chat junk. Now I'm stuck with 7/10 reputation.
It's been a long time since the ban, and it was either one of two reasons: One, because someone had griefed someone else's pirate ship and I tried to fix it for them, or two, since I was helping some other users build something that turned out bad, so we removed it. Either way, its a POSSESSED TECHNOLOGICAL TERROR that they have running! They should seriously have some exterminator get rid of that server. It's terrible!
Not only is MCBans bad, but there is a sad, sad page they have. I've never felt so bad for these lifeless people. It was a list... of donators. My god. Seriously? There were about a hundred donators, and there was one big username: "Omori". That user had donated $480.20. HOLY FLEEP! Who would WORK for that company? Someone possessed...
When 1.8's name changing feature was announced, I was like "THANK YOU! MCBANS IS FINALLY DEAD!" Then after that, a sad, dark day came... I'm sure many people around the globe despaired. It was almost as horrible as a disaster as what would've been a combined tsunami and tornado hitting New York City. On the MCBans website, a headline: MCBans will continue by banning users by their id...
Not possible when the plugin is put in the hands of abusive server owners. Also, stop spamming the thread, please.

I wonder why you got banned.
