Thing is, One server could have a rule, that another server doesn't have. Such as glitching into bases, Some servers actually allow that. Some don't.
Ahh, but. This is the idea. If someone broke a rule on one server, then they may break a rule on another server. Say a PvP server has the rule "no hacking" and a PvE server has the rule "no killing players (with lava or whatever)". What is the difference? If a player is going to use lava to kill people on the PvE server, then they may break the no hacking rule. And visa versa.

The most ironic part is that doridian has over 9000 total bans even on his own site.... What a complete dumbass, like that's gonna get him downloads for his plugin! xD Whoever thinks mcbans is absolutely retarded, here, a golden apple to you
I gotta say, MCBans is the worst Minecraft plugin ever. Hate on me, report this comment, I don't care. I'm aloud to state my own opinion. Freedom of Speech.
Mcbans is ok. The reason I use it is to stop the players with 0 Rep and 50k alts. You shouldn't have that many alts and also some players need to learn a lesson or get a reminder about following the rules. If you get banned and you didnt do anything, DISPUTE IT. if you dispute it you can get your ban removed and could join. Sometimes Staff members make mistakes.
I don't personally run this plugin but i do sometimes use their extensive database of bans to check up on people i think might be troublemakers. Gives me more control this way, and i can check if the bans made are justified.
I personally hate MCBans sometimes since if someone logs on with for example Hacking on like 50 other serves then it makes you notice that you have to watch that player since he possibly hacks, I understand that you shouldn't ban depending on other bans but MCBans lets you know what players to look out for
I personally have given up on mcbans.
I recently tried to globally ban someone who assisted a griefer and spammed my chat, i even posted logs clearly showing what this person did.
this ban was overturned on dispute with the reason
"This whole dispute is moot. The ban reason is invalid. Fugue, please read the global banning rules. Thank you, <redacted>"
"Mods have determined that this ban will not be held against you, and will be set to LOCAL."
the reason he was banned is listed as a valid global ban reason. i have elected not to list the inept staff member that dropped this to a local.
needless to say, if mcbans won't help me secure my servers i certainly have no need for them, and have delted my servers and my global bans against a couple of dangerous and untrustworty players.
But i do recognize issues. I am a Responsible Mcbans server owner. And me and my staff use it very responsibly.
Personally, only me and admins can set a global ban, mods and other staff are restricted to Temps, and if needed, an admin or myself will up it.
As for people complaining about their rep, Just Dispute the ban, if they dont have proof, then it will go away, if they have proof, you did it. Suck it up.
I agree, mcbans could do more to keep irresponsible admins from false-banning.
If you are that worried then just dont do anything wrong, and they wont ban you, right?

Yep. Notch himself had a few hundred bans last time I checked.
Either:
Notch is a serial griefer.
People are abusing the plugins.
It's MCBan's fault for not realizing that if people were mature enough to use their plugin properly they would have no need for their plugin.

I just don't know anymore. I joined a mcbans server few months ago and said ''Hi'' and then I was banned instantly.
Now I join some other mcbans servers and I get ''Previous ban'' message.
And sorry for my bad english
I did an mcbans search on you, you actually griefed. Don't lie. ALSO if you did get banned for Hi, go dispute it.
But what is REALLY STUPID about MCBans is the reputation system. You get banned from a server and lose 1 rep. The server gains rep and becomes a 2rep server. Now, you have lost 2 rep.
How can being banned from a more quality server be worse than being banned from a worse quality server.
If I ever put MCBans on my server, please abuse me.
because better quality servers can be taken more seriously. Larger servers tend to be more official and have better staff. If you are banned from a small, 5 person server that is run by 8 year olds the ban carries less weight than being banned from a big professional server.

He makes a good point though. If you are banned from a server with one rep, why should your rep keep going down as the server gets more rep? You were banned when it was a 1 rep server, they are now a 3 rep server. That is not at all fair.
I find it interesting that people would place the security of their servers in the hands of complete strangers. I work in the security department for a major corporation and we would never just accept a security system based on description and promises from the developers.
Security is the responsibility of the server owner and their staff, and to place the security of the server in the hands of outsiders just proves how irresponsible the owner/staff really are. I personally have avoided using mcbans on all the servers i have run in the past, since I immediately saw the potential for false accusations to be come rampant.
Anyone that posts : "don't do anything wrong and you wont get banned." clearly does not see the inherent problems of using a system designed to make players behave when the very same system was designed and is moderated by people that have proven to be completely untrustworthy and prone to misbehaving themselves.
I for one will not use mcbans. while I cant force anyone else, I would still urge other admins to abandon this broken and flawed system and to implement good security policies of their own.
There is a reason why blacklists are illegal in any non private use. Its because they function only on the the unbiased good behavior of the people that regulate them, who are human, and thus are always biased in some way. History has proven time and time again that blacklists will ultimately always fail.
Personally, I just use Fishbans, which allows me to collect the ban results from a multitude of different sources. Fishbans has a plugin for Bukkit servers, called FishChecker, that allows me to see the collective ban results of all people whenever they join. I use this information so I know to watch them and eventually question them on it, but by no means does the plugin automatically prevent them from joining the server, nor put the security of my server in the hands of someone else.
MCbans is great! Why do you say not to go onto mcbans servers? Why not have a 0 rep if you act like that?
We who dislike mcbans feel that most admins that use mcbans abuse the system far to much, and We thus feel the only way to avoid having negative rep from biased server admins banning for petty and unfounded reasons is to avoid mcbans servers whenever possible.
To top it off We don't want to be held accountable by a reputation system thats moderated by people with worse REAL WORLD reps then 99% of the people listed on mcbans. I honestly trust the US government with my reputation more then mcbans.
Us "acting" like that shows that we can spot a potentially ill managed server before we even login. A good skill to have considering how often servers are hacked these days because of irresponsible server admins leaving server security in the hands of dodgy plugins.

Most plugins work If you use the plugin doesn't it check for you? P.S It that my profile picture?
Key word MOST, as in allot but not all. This inspires about as much confidence as "probably" "maybe" and "might be".
