Personally, I hate it because I get on a new server that I think I'll really like, then almost immediately an admin sidles up to me (figuratively) and says,
"Oh, it says here you were banned on random # of servers... for no reason... well, you're banned here too fag"
This is why I hate it.

OT: I LOVE MCbans. It keeps little [redacted] who willfully choose not to follow rules time and time again off servers!
So what if the OP was banned cause of admin abuse? What if others can't join their favorite servers cause of past admins banning them cause of them just being abusive?
By the way OP, get private friend servers. They are better than public in all kinds of way.
I hate Mcbans because im global banned for "griefing" somebodys dirt. Now every mc ban server i go on bans me for being a griefer. I tried to apeal and the admin of the server posted fake evedence.
Sounds like a pain in the rear, OP. Sorry you endure that.
I don't really do SMP. I never built on servers because I always felt like I was imposing. I used to just explore servers but after being literally stalked and shot at for exploring, I decided to pretty much just give that up.

it means that the person who gets banned doesn't get to play most servers again, so people like me, who rely quite a bit on multiplayer, will have nothing to do.

I am commenting here without knowing all the facts, usually something I wouldnt do.but.As a server owner for 2 months(and been runnin previous servers like a server owner for approx 9 months) and playing minecraft pretty much since release,I would like you to consider this.It has happened several times to me, but generally Some of your most trusted players will in the end betray you.My most Memorable event regarding this is when 4 of my staff betrayed me(one of them was still an op, the others quit but where still skype friends). He oped them all, then wrecked the map.Obviously nothing a backup cant fix and im sure you have plenty of reason for trusting your moderators, all im saying is dont be so sure.(again if you have other reason for trusting them other than in game experience disregard this).
you just reminded me of something silly i did to my server yesterday...
but yes, you need trusted people such as friends and all that for your moderators/ops

Usually you have to be a huge repeat offender before you start to get auto-blocked from most MCBans member servers.
I always lookup folks who have flagged names, but I rarely pre-emptively ban anyone. A lot of times it's a kid who did something thoughtless like get lost in another player's castle and cut his way out the side; or got in a pissing contest with a mod with a very low tolerance for horseplay. He just wants a clean start and a community that can engage him and keep him busy.
We have several members who have previous global and/or local bans, who seem to be functioning just fine in our towny survival environment. We also have had players we had to ban within a few days or even a few hours of joining, and roll back pages and pages of griefing. The average number of previous bans is about the same between the two groups.
MCBans is just a community service. Although past behaviour predicts future behaviour to some degree, it's not a crystal ball. Some players have bans but straightened up their act. Others have spotless records but are some of the most sketchy, cunning and antisocial twits you will ever meet on a server. It's sad that some admins have set the autoblock bar improbably high, meaning you can't make a fresh start. I doubt that's how it was intended but to each his own.
I hate it becausI used to play my favorite server and got banned from an mcban server because I was just talking about my server because an admin asked for it he banned me and then when I tried to join my favorite server I couldn't
Our server has NEVER gotten MCBans.
"We don't use MCBans because the philosophy at *Server* is "Everyone gets a second chance", serial griefers included.
If we used MCBans, those deserving a second chance and even some long time playing members would no longer be able to play.
Thus MCBans will never be implemented."
We have an ex-griefer for an Admin. The best damn one.
If we install MCBans half the long-playing server members are gone.

Only if you ban them, or if they have 0/10 rep on mcbans, will they no longer have access. You can also add those players to your list of people that are the exception to the 0/10 rule on mcbans, so people you know are fine on your server can continue to play uninterupted. I don't mind giving second chances, and generally will not ban someone unless they do something deserving of a ban, but I don't want anyone who's 0/10 on my server. You want a second chance? Fine, do it somewhere else though. That's my opinion on the matter at least ;D
Alright, so I HATE MCbans because I was on the mcbans server and some a-hole hacker hacked into op AND BANNED ME. WITH 0/10 REPUTATION. Now I'm banned from every single mcbans server. What the hell is that? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?
Way too many servers have way too many admins that take administration wayyyy too seriously. I mean yea, take it seriously, but to the extent of protecting your server. Dont go beyond that, once you go beyond that you just become a heartless A-hole who bans people for the slightest reason. Also, the worst ban excuse ever used by admins is "Admin disrespect" -OH PLEASE. SO YOUR AN ADMIN, WELL YOU'RE ALSO AN IGNORANT SNOB. YOU DONT DESERVE RESPECT.
Why i hate McBans? It gives admins more potential to become what i described above.
Every server has a different set of rules, most of them have a 'no griefing' rule, but there also may be different consequences depending on the extent of griefing. One server may instaban for ONE (1) DIRT BLOCK having been created/destroyed where someone doesn't like it, whereas another has a 20 block rule.
MCBans was a good concept, but it's one of those things that just doesn't work out in reality.
It can give you a heads up on potential problems. There are many servers who do not instantly ban you just because you have previous bans. But guess what - we might watch you closer for while.
Because a friend logged in on his account on my computer, went to a server with mcbans, proceeded to get his account with a crazy low rep linked to my clean perfect rep account. /rage
