For 4 days I've been trying to get this server up and running. I've gone through tutorials, youtube videos, and checked questions others have asked.
Ok, so I started with a basic server. With my internal ip, I was able to log in. Then I upgraded it to a bukkit server, and I could still log in. I got myself Simple Port Forwardingand told it to forward to 25565 and my ip.
Now today, I gave info to my friend and she can't connect. I gave her every ip i could find, from internal to external, the one from ipchicken, the ones from ipconfig . None worked. We tried them with and without the port number. Nothing. Dad says my IP changes every day, so I got DynDNS Updater which, I set the addy to billnye.dyndns.biz, but still don't have luck with or a clue how to make it forward the ip for my server.
I completed the forwarding btw with the SPF, but the Open Port Check Tool online says the port isn't open.
I don't even know where to start anymore. Point me in the right direction please?
When you are port forwarding is there a spot that says 192.168.0.__ and it lets you type a number there? if there is you need to make sure you set the right number there. rou have to go into command prompt, to get there you would go to Run then cmd.exe. after you get there type ipconfig and find the IPv4 number.
If you're using SPF you don't need to type in your router's ip anywhere. It should auto-detect it.
All you should have to do is type in the port number and change TCP/UDP.
Have you tried doing it manually?

I went to the site you linked, I followed their instructions, their port checker wont work for me (its like it doesnt install correctly, no files get placed), and.. after forwarding the port to the new static ip I'm getting the message that it can't connect because something is already running on 25565 =/

you should delete the minecraft server folder then reinstall it...
Write down your daily ip (if it changes every day)
You yourself can connect to: Localhost (if you are running the server on the same machine as you are playing on. (you can verify its working this way))
Give your friend the daily ip: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:25565
So in the example you gave: 192.168.2.101:25565
If your friend has trouble connecting to your server tomorrow: Check the site again http://www.whatismyip.com/
Your ip might have changed.
thing is, she hasn't been able to connect to any server I've started. ive tried three. and there's got to be a way to make my changing ip forward to one that won't change, I just don't understand how >.< no way I'm updating 8 people on ip change every day D:
I just wanted a private server for some friends of friends, but I'm starting to lose hope.
