Hello. I'm brand spanking new to running a server. It took me forever to install the plugins i wanted, but i'm not entirely sure how to configure them now. For some reason, People are able to use god mode from Mcmmo as a normal user.
Also looking for a few plugin suggestions and how to install them. If you could recommend something please let me know.

Are you still offering help? This thread was started a year ago. I am just starting up a server and don't know how to get started and could do with some pointers. I'm not new to technology at all - just to this. I set up mymcadmin and then had craftbukkit installed but the whitelist i set up originally doesnt seem to work...

unfortunatly, I have been gone for quite a while and a lot has changed. I'll be of more help in a few weeks, check back then!
I have a bukkit server and would like to be able to reload the map with just a /reload. Like to reset the map to when i backed it up or whatever. (I have a Hunger Games server so I really need this [96.253.98.56])
It would be easier to just have the big brother plugin and do a global rollback for however long the game has been going on. I'll keep looking but I don't believe a plugin like that exists.
Just bought a dedicated server, but when I try to login myself it gives me the dreaded "Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection Reset" error.
I'm completely new to this kind of thing, I'm surprised port forwarding for a home run server earlier today didnt give me too much trouble, so I bought a dedicated server from DamnGoodGames and I have been looking tirelessly for someone who will simply say how to fix this, but have yet to have any luck.
Perhaps direct askance will brandish me insight on this elusive error.
I have not installed any mods yet, and my firewall is disabled.

Hey, Right now I have a server I'm running off of my computer that is used by no more than probably eight people at any time. I've had no problems running it so far but now I'm interested in modding it, I know right now I'm going to have to wait until mods are released that are 1.3.1 compatible, my question is how do I mod server side, because I've joined servers that were modded before and I could play with their mods without having to mod my client. Now whenever I read up on mods on the forums at I am interested in, the majority have instructions on how to install in single player but not on a server. A lot of the mods I look at mention Bukkit or Forge and I honestly have no clue what that is. So any tips or links or anything you could provide would be much appreciated.

Well, that depends. If by mod, you mean add things such as mo creatures, buildcraft, and other things of that sort, then yes, both the client and server have to have the same mods installed. If you are looking to do something like that, i suggest you look at tekkit, which is a complition of all the best mods in a pre packed format. All you have to do is run it. Here's the link. http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/
However, if you mean adding things such as flying, admin commands, mmo addons and things like that, you need bukkit. http://bukkit.org. Bukkit is a server mod which allows you to add things called plugins, which can do various different things. Just click on the get plugins link and have a look around. I think you'll find most of the things you want on there. With bukkit, only the server has to have the plugins, making things easier for the players.
I don't want to completely change the game, so I don't really want IC2 and BuildCraft, I want to add mods that will essentially add to the game without changing it. Mo' Creatures, Pam's Harvest Craft, Aether, and some sort of nether mod. So would the best thing for me to do be to mod my client and zip that folder and send it to the people using my server and tell them what to do from there?
well its illegal to distribute your jar, even in a zipped form. Even if the people you are sending it to own a copy of minecraft, its still illegal. The best thing to do would be to do it yourself, and when you get it working write a guide on how to do it. Keep in mind though, not all mods will work on smp.
Edit:
Alrighty, I got it.
EDIT: Mine is imodatlife, if you have it just add me on that.

Are you sure you have the latest server version? There was a problem with the edition that was out yesterday, as can be seen here http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1393218-internal-exception-javanetsocketexception-connection-reset/
Try deleting the mine craft server .jar, then redownloading it. If you don't have access to that, you may need to contact your server provider.
Let me know if that fixes it, if not I can try to fix it.
I appoligize for any spelling or grammar mistakes, I'm on my phone.

Okay wow, I am really clueless, so when you have a dedicated server, where is the folder for minecraft stuff? is it the same or different.
Edit: Nevermind, I got a hold of live support, and we got it all sorted. Sorry for the trouble.
Thanks,
Skidgy
Its no problem, happy to help. Sorry I didn't respond in time to help you, I was working
