Update: So I've found some time again and will be starting to help setup servers again. Feel free to post with any problems you have. Thanks
I've been running a server for about 8 months now, and feel as though I have a very good understanding of Bukkit, Mcadmin, and pretty much any other mod you can think of. I've been doing my best to share my knowledge with the other users, but ever since the view your posts function has been disabled, it has been very hard to tell if the user is actually understanding what I'm saying, or if I'm just talking out of the orface located on my backside. Also, this thread could possibly become something like a thread for almost any common problem, and some of the less common ones, as I will try to answer any questions on here so that other's can see them.
edit: so mine OS was brought up, then I remembered.... oh yeah, I don't know how to use that.... so, I will help wig everything NOT mine OS.. sorry bout that :/
Anyways, what I'm saying here is I'll pretty much do anything you need for your server, you just have to ask. If it's just a question that I can answer in the thread, without seeing too much of anything, such as your plugins folder or whatever, I'll answer it on here, and you should have a answer fairly soon. If it's something a bit more complicated, such as the server just not working and you having no idea what the problem is, I'll need to do something like dropbox for smaller problems, and teamviewer for the more complex ones. So basically, heres the only thing I'm asking for here if you want help:
+ If you have a question about portforwarding, please go here first. He explains it much better than I could ever.
+Post a question/ problem here first. No matter how hard you think this will be, just post here first, because it's a whole lot quicker for me to answer on here than it is to answer over teamviewer, email ect.
+If I can't help you on the forum, I'll probably ask you to get teamviewer as it is the easiest thing for me to help you with. For those of you that don't know, it is a screen sharing program that allows me to see your screen, and if you give me permissions, transfer files and edit things. Now, I know privacy can be an issue here, so I'm always willing to let you connect to my machine first, have a look around and I'll show you how to restrict what users can do once they have connected. I know that certain people can be a bit dishonest on the internet, so I'll let you play around with it until you feel satisfied that I'm not trying to give you a Trojan horse or something terrible like that.
Thats pretty much it. Just start posting your comments and I'll start answering.
Oh one last thing. I understand that the title of this says free, and that is because it is. I'll never charge you for services that are only needed because a program can be a bit difficult at times. However, it would be nice if you say, were feeling a bit generous and decided to drop a bit of cash my way. By no means feel obligated to do this, but the option is there if you want to. I know times are tough and I won't feel at all offended if you can't or don't want to give anything. If you do though, just let me know and I'll send you the info.
That's a very generous offer. I understand what you're offering and some of the frustration that can come with it. I have a pretty good knowledge of Windows. I reach out using skills helping people remove viruses and in general other technical difficulties.
Although I've used linux based utilities and antivirus tools, they always came in a nice bootable CD, with clear documentation. I've never really had to install much on linux or using it from command line. This is were I could use your help. I'm currently running a minecraft server using MineOS+(tinycore). Since I'm behind a university firewall I don't have access to port forwarding or any hope of convincing the network administrators.
To cope with port forwarding limitations I use Hamachi. I had a lot of trouble getting it to work due to Linux and Windows clients. It has to do with keep alive settings between the server and client. The second the protocol could be a lot more efficient. I found a wonderful alternative n2n. http://www.ntop.org/n2n/ From what I've read it's vastly superior and can hold as many clients as I'd like. For life of me I can't get it installed properly. It has several dependencies that I'm unsure of how to inject into MineOS. Your thoughts on the matter be greatly appreciated. -Zone

I haven't played around with MineOS yet, so I'm not much help there. However, if you choose to use a Ubuntu or Debian based distro, n2n is available in the repositories (sudo apt-get install n2n). If you are stuck on MineOS, and you are having issues compiling n2n from source, I might be able to help you if I saw the compiler output.

That's okay :wink.gif:
You should test it out (Maybe in virtual box) it's really simple to set up and easy-to-use. Adding a third-party program can be tricky though. Most likely because I'm pretty inapt at working with linux.
@sandain
When I get a chance I'll try to compile it, as for right now I don't have the time.
I'll send you a PM with the results.
I have recently started a minecraft server with some friends. I have MCMyAdmin running with Bukkit and a couple of plug-ins. My problem is that I am experiencing lag when connected to my server but only in a specific region. I accidentally spawned 10,000,000 torches in the area. This is something like chat and commands taking 30-60 seconds to go through before displaying/executing. There is also block placement lag on it as well. I've been deleting blocks that require updates (Redstone, Torches) like crazy to remedy the problem. I seem to have gotten it a little better, but am afraid that it will degenerate again

yup. I'm assuming you used world edit or something similar to spawn that many torches. Just take the wand, select the area that has the torches in it, fill it with lava, let it sit for about 10-20 seconds, then do //undo. That will burn all the torches and should get rid of any lag they are causing. You might want to also restart the server after you delete the torches, but thats up to you :biggrin.gif:
The only thing is, if there are houses there make sure you move all the items from the chests there, because the items won't be there again when you do //undo. The Chests will come back, but not the items inside, so be carefull :biggrin.gif:

I used the WorldEdit plugin's /remove tool to get rid of all torches in a ridiculous radius. It seems to have helped a bit. There is still some lag on the world though

wait, are the torches placed? or are they floating like you hit them? if they are floating you will ahve to use lava as the remove tool only removes placed entites.
Oh great. Could you help me tonight with permissions? I installed it an hour ago and I am still confuzed.
What happens is that I can't really just get how the program works... It is my first server trial and I can't seem to get support elsewhere. I just don't know how to set up permissions. I also have trouble with worldguard, that is, giving lots to players and making them build on them just does not work (so far).
I have teamviewer. I would love you dearly (friendly-ish)<3. If I ever get my server to be popular, il donate to you this summer (I promise... if you send me a PM then :tongue.gif:)

Alright, thanks a lot. The only time I am available tomorrow, however, is around this part of the day( currentl 10h20 pm, I won't be back until 10 tomorrow.)
What verision of bukkit are you running, and if you have updated recently, (mailny past 600), have you also updated your plugins?
Minecraft Bukkit ( v1.4, #677 )

"Minecraft Bukkit Update

Due to the news that Minecraft is not going to update to 1.5 tomorrow, we still be upgrading all Bukkit servers to the current recommend build 674.
There are a number of major changes in the way Bukkit now does plugin names.
We will be force to stop all Bukkit servers and perform a number of plugin config file on each machine and how they are displayed in Clanforge.
During this time, Clanforge will be offline to avoid accidental breakage of servers / plugins.
Update @ 15:00 due to the release of Bukkit build 677 we have delayed this until Friday 15th April"
from here, do you know how I would update the plugins??
i was wondering if theres a simple block ownership plugin for bukkit... ive tried worldguard and stuff like that but its way too complicated for a server for only like 5 people. like is there a plugin where if you place a block its registered to you and only you can destroy it or use it? im not worried about griefing otherwise... just enough to keep my friends outa my house lol

Basically what it does it say if you placed a certian block, I think a lapizlazil block, they couldn't enter. You could also place a diamondblock which would protect your house from everything. I don't know might be worth a look.

error: org/bukkit/craftbukkit/inventory/craftitemstack
how do I go about fixing this? I'm using ClanForge to host the server, and also using Bukkit (obviously).
I searched the error, and found this: http://www.bing.com/search?q=error%3A+o ... E&qs=n&sk=
I just dont know where to go from there.
Note: this only happens for the "Sell" signs. the "Buy" signs work totally fine.
The same error also comes when I type /invsee.
