To my knowledge, world one is restored and started automatically at boot currently (same status bug applies), but I don't have time to confirm right now.
I can confirm that it is not :/
This is when I click status right after a reboot.
My start server problem is getting weird. I have checked the craftbukkit jar and it is there and not 0 bytes. I then checked the server.properties and only found two lines in it, containing the population size and port number. I then copied and pasted the defaults into the server.properties. But it is still not working. Confused.
I'll see if I can help. First of all, are you a good distance away from this point before you dig?
Second are you using a RAM disk configuration for mineOS?
Third are you logging on locally to your server using localhost?
Can you post your server hardware specifications?
OK, the workaround to restore worlds on reboot of ramdisk installs is to add the following to your opt/bootlocal.sh file:
# Ramdisk restore worlds on boot
su tc -c 'cd /usr/games/minecraft; python admin_console.py restore one'
su tc -c 'cd /usr/games/minecraft; python admin_console.py restore two'
su tc -c 'cd /usr/games/minecraft; python admin_console.py restore three'
# Start world on boot
su tc -c 'cd /usr/games/minecraft; python admin_console.py start one'
make sure and save with 'sudo filetool.sh'
I will have the restore part added in the install script in the next update to avoid this problem in the future, and create a function to edit the world that should boot from the web-panel. I will also have the create world function run a backup as soon as the world is created, to ensure there is something to restore if the server is restarted right away.

Are you running a ramdisk or normal install? Try deleting the server folder (one, two, etc), updating server files again, and then creating the world again. After the world creation run log_dump with 50 or so as the argument from the web-panel and make sure it looks like this:

Managed to install it on a VM, connected to the server fine but lag is insane. Breaking blocks doesn't do anything except make them respawn, is this normal?
Thanks.
If your VM is running on the same machine as the game you are playing, you will probably experience some client lag. Do the usual fog + lower render distance stuff and see if it helps. Doing the ramdisk install will also get you a bit of a performance boost. Just make sure and follow Hexparrot's crontab tutorial for automatic backups and the above bootlocal.sh fix, or wait until the next MineOS+ update (next weekend).
The block breaking thing is due to Minecraft's built in spawn protection, which only allows ops to build or break stuff within 14 squares of the spawn point. Add yourself to the op list with the web-panel command op with your username as the argument and you will be able to do what you please. You can change the spawn-protect distance in server.properties, and I will be adding it to the list of web-panel commands next update.

Running normal install. I am on a pretty old computer, and extremely low RAM, so I am buying some more soon (But on the previous MineOS, I was able to go one and play and all [just pretty high lag]). Deleted server folder one (only made one), updated files (kept both jars, it said), and recreated the world. I then used the log dump with argument 50 and received:
{'world': 'one', 'command': 'log_dump', 'argument': '50'} (2, 'No such file or directory') [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/mnt/hda1/minecraft/one/server.log'
EDIT:
After more tinkering, I set memory to 500, and I checked in the one folder and found the dump log:

Now I see that warning for not enough RAM, and this really could be an issue, but the weird thing is that I used the same computer on the last MineOS, and it worked alright, but maybe after that latest update it increased the RAM needed... I may wait till I get more RAM.
You can actually view the log right from the web-panel by typing log_dump in the Cmd/val box, and the number of lines you want to view in the arguments box.
From what I see there, you're good to go at this point. 500 MB isn't much, but you should be able to get away with a couple people on that. If start world returns down when you try it, wait a little bit and hit status again to make sure you aren't being affected by the status bug.
Nope, nothing. I am going to try a fresh install, but thank you for your help and your devotion to this project, it is definitely worth it! I'll keep you posted if I get some similar results after install, hehe. :biggrin.gif:
EDIT:
After the fresh install, all is working well. I still don't understand what I did wrong, but for those that are having difficulty similar to what I have. Try a reinstall :smile.gif:
Thank you again for keeping this awesome project alive!
This is rad! Good work guys! I am excited to see where this project goes!
I have a couple of issues that may be related:
I freshly installed the newest build of MineOS+ and got it going over my local network (which was an improvement over the old Mine os where it wouldn't start world one - it kept saying status down). I even imported our old world with all the plugins intact and working just over sftp (I am on a mac ssh'ing into the old PC crammed full of RAM that installed OS + onto).
I relocated the server to its proper final location (my office with a fast connection, not my house) and now I am trying to get in from the proper external IP (and over the network, same deal) but it says connection refused. The web admin says the world is not starting either (as in click 'start' and the still says the world is down). I port forwarded everything correctly, even tried the router in DMZ mode to that computer, but still no dice. Port checker says just that one (25565) is closed (despite 22, 80, and 8080 being wide open and working perfectly). Anyone have an ideas? IF you read through this wall of text and have any clues thanks!! :biggrin.gif:
Yikes! I am glad I read the last post on the old MineOS page. I didn't realize there was a MineOS+. Is it 100% certain that hexparrot is no longer going to develop MineOS?
The RAMDISK feature is what really sold me on MineOS. I suppose the same results could be achieved in another linux distro, but this is WAY more friendly to all the windows users like me.
I'm installing this on my netbook, trying for a RAMdisk install. I get it to install and everything seems to install perfectly, but then when I do the first reboot to finish the installation I select MineOS+ from the GRUB bootloader and I get the following:
Booting 'MineOS+ x86'
root (hd0,2)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/bzImage text quiet
Error 15: File not found
Press any key to continue...
Pressing any key to continue simply takes me back to GRUB bootloader whereupon the process repeats when I select the option to boot MineOS+.
Is there a limit to hard drive size? Im using a 160gb SATA drive, and it either gives me oddball partition errors or will not install grub properly. I can install a VM no sweat but when I try and put it on my server hardware things go haywire. But at the same time I know it isn't an issue with a bad drive or anything like that because I can install literally any other OS I have the install media for and it will work perfectly.

Hi,
As for the world not starting, have you checked that the craftbukkit and minecraft server jars exist ?
Bukkit has been having some problems with it's servers recently which has made MineOS download a craftbukkit with a size of 0
I'll add more here in a little while - iPod touch won't scroll down so I've hit the "character" limit :/
Yeah they both exist and are not 0B, which is part of the reason this is so perplexing. I can try and delete the world and recreate then reupload the world? Although I still won't be able to get into the world because connections to 25565 are being refused eve after portforwarding and putting the computer on DMZ in the router :/
I'm installing this on my netbook, trying for a RAMdisk install. I get it to install and everything seems to install perfectly, but then when I do the first reboot to finish the installation I select MineOS+ from the GRUB bootloader and I get the following:

Some help please?
I have exactly the same problem. During step 3 of the installation process, I got a "squash fs"-something error...
Will install again to note the error message down.
Why does it say the filesystem is ext2fs? I made sure to reformat the partition to ext3.
Would be grateful for any kind of help on this, since I think MineOS(+) is a fantastic idea and i would love to try it out.
I have run into both of these errors before. I think its because in the step where it asks for the name of the CD drive I put in the wrong thing. It's worth noting that when it says "Best guess /hdc", simply hitting enter will NOT default to the best guess. It will be blank but continue on silently until it fails further down the road.
I also find that to reinstall, the harddrive must be wiped clean of its partitions, as booting from the MineOS+ install media will behave differently when there are already partitions from a previous attempt. I use a DOS boot disk to clear the disk. MineOS+ itself should be able to wipe the disk, but I can't get the partition tools to work when MineOS+ is in its 'funny' state.
to do a reinstall you need to boot form the dist, and use "sudo fdisk /dev/sda" and delete all your partitions, then do a "sudo reboot" and then install as usually..
or that's my experience at least?
I was trying to use cfdisk (the same thing the install script uses) and it told me that it didn't exist.

My netbook doesn't have an optical drive, so I'm doing USB install. During the boot process, it says something like: "sdb: Assuming drive write cache" So I thought that meant sdb was my USB drive. But I guess I could try sdc. sda is definitely the HDD.
Anyway, I wonder if this is related to the problem: I just typed in "sudo fdisk /dev/sda" and it told me the following:
The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 19457.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024, and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)
Is that anything that I need to be concerned about for the problems I'm experiencing?
I can confirm that it is not :/
This is when I click status right after a reboot.
I already have a bunch of backups (my crontab works).
After a reboot, I can manually click restore and start and then it works fine.
Second are you using a RAM disk configuration for mineOS?
Third are you logging on locally to your server using localhost?
Can you post your server hardware specifications?
Yes probably 3-4 if using normal install, 6-7 using ramdisk i'd say, depending of players habits of course (wanderers takes at lot on resources)
I'm running it on a p4 with 2gig of ram and hosting for 5 friends and have no problems
make sure and save with 'sudo filetool.sh'
