Remove the IP from server.properties next to server-ip=
Also, how are you connecting to the server? Through your external IP or your internal IP or localhost?
How does your husband connect to the server?
Does he have a premium Minecraft account?
Are you running any anti-virus or firewall software?
Are you playing on the same computer as you're running the server?

im connecting thru hamachis
hes connecting thru hamachi
we both have beta accounts.
im using avg and no firewalls. we had this server in the last version of beta and it worked fine.
yeah im playing on same comp.
also its kicking him off to when he trys to talk so its not just me.
EDIT: i just removed the ip from server-ip and logged in the server with :25565 and it gives me same message while i try to talk.
Why are you using Hamachi when you are both on the same network? Why are you connecting to the server through Hamachi when the server is running locally? Hamachi is only needed when there are people outside of your network that need to bypass your router.
If you're both connected to the same router, just close/exit Hamachi, start the server without server-ip= filled in.. you can connect with "localhost" since you're playing on the same computer as the server is running and he can connect to your internal/local/LAN IP.
It's very likely that using Hamachi to connect outside of your network only to come right back in to the network is causing errors/corruption of the data being sent.
To get your internal IP, go to start -> run and type "cmd" - in that window type "ipconfig /all" and look for the 192.168 address next to "IPv4" - That is what your husband should use to connect.
