Me and my friend are trying to create a server for the same network and we can't find the server ip or it is net allowing us to connect. All we did was download the server creation packet on the website and ran it, is there more that we need to do?
Actually, it's usually a good idea to leave "server-ip=" in server.properties blank depending on the layout of your network.
Open up Minecraft_server.exe and then go to Start -> run and type "cmd" - In that new window type "ipconfig /all" and look for the IPv4 address. That is the address that your brother will need to use to connect to the server.
For you to connect, if you're on the same computer that the server software is running on, go into Multiplayer in Minecraft and just type "localhost" and you'll be on the server.
If you have any connection issues or your brother can't connect then make sure you've disabled any firewall and anti-virus software on the computer running the server. Since you're running the server strictly on LAN, you don't have to bother with port forwarding, that's something you do only if you want users from outside of your network to connect to the server.
And if it's saying bad login then obviously your username/password combination for Minecraft.net are incorrect. Have you purchased the game or are you using a pirated version?
