ZenCraft is Bukkit converted to run on Mono/.NET--that is, Java-less. It will automatically convert plugins on-the-fly. It is, as you would assume, much more efficient. I expect a ZenCraft server to hold at least three times the number of players as a normal server with the same RAM.
On Windows, run craftbukkit.exe. On Linux, double-click craftbukkit.exe or run "mono craftbukkit.exe". You will need Mono installed.

Could you post a small guide about how to get this working on ubuntu? We might have to try this out. Does this make the overall performance of the server better? Or just that capacity? Email me directly if you want to talk. [email protected]
I'm getting invalid archive using zip and a like error using rar although it will open the archive. I noticed that the CRC checksum is all zeroes on the *.exe file.....
Edit: Rar throws an Unexpected end of archive error but does open the archive. Shows craftbukkit.exe approx 1.3MB with a CRC32 of 00000000. Is this a valid file or is there a temporary issue?
Edit the Edit: Either the download was fixed or a browser change did the trick. No, I will not say what one I used cuz it will start a goofy browser war again.

What version of Bukkit?
How often will this be updated?
Will it update with daily builds? Or only with "stable" (recommended) releases?
As an avid Bukkit user, I and many others are painfully aware of how often Bukkit builds are produced. The trick being balancing which build to use vs. which plugins we want to use coupled with a heaping amount of prayer and ritual sacrifice in the hopes that the plugins are - if not up to date - not beating the crap out of our servers with endless streams of errors.
I'm all for trying this out because I think it's a brilliant idea! I applaud you, Sir, for your hard work and effort!
I have the zencraft folder. Where do I put it? Where do I put the dlls? Do I simply replace the bukkit.jar with this exe and start it with the same batch file I'm still using or??? Could do with a help.txt within the archive to save stupid questions like mine.

This is a VM for Java in Mono or .NET.
Be aware this runs Java applications yet is not one hundred percent compatible with Java programs.

If you use this you might run into strange errors or things that don't work.

whats the chance you will do the same for hMod?
then you will be able to see the big changes among the biggest servers that hold up to 1000 users.
Apreciate your concern , and sorry for my bad english.

Same, but with vanilla minecraft_server.jar instead
I've gathered that this doesn't work for pretty much anyone

Not for the majority. 2.10/2.11 with ikvm .46 do not work under ubuntu. CentOS must have something else going on that makes it work.

And if anyone gets this to work under Ubuntu, let me know please :biggrin.gif:
