I just copied and pasted my world file into another folder is that good enough to back it up or is there anything else i need to do also does my nether world need to be backed up?
I do not appreciate being forced to update my server just because Notch decided it would be nice.
As of now, I've taken my server down, a bunch of people are going to be very unhappy.
I am too busy for this right now. I feel this move was intrusive and shows a bit of disrespect to the users - forcing updates.
Wow, seriously? Developers shouldn't release a patch because you are to busy to deal with updating? It takes less than 5 minutes to download the new file and upload it to a remote server if you are using a VPS, less than 2 minutes if you are home hosting and have a thumbdrive handy. If you are running a vanilla server there are no issues. And Notch/Mojang are under absolutely 0 obligation to work with or support in any way shape or form, ANY mod be it Bukkit or Kmod or whatever.
Oh and if you and your precious users had bothered to keep informed ( as a good server admin should) you would have known about the new launcher that lets you choose to update or not.
Get off your high horse, if you don't want to act like a server admin, then by all means shut your server down. Nobody on these forums is going beg you not to.
---------------
Why would I be running a vanilla server? That's exactly what I'm talking about. I have a job, but still run a server, and I update it in my spare time.
Unlike you, I have a life, apparently - I do not sit on here all day and read all the news about server updates by Notch...The server is just a more stable way to run the game than single, and allows for me and friends to play together, which is what I want out of a game. I found out about this by one my friends contacting me on IM and telling me they couldn't log in, as the client and server were no longer compatible because of automatic updates.
So now in order for her to log in, I have to convince her to downgrade her client, as upgrading my server would probably kill most of my plugins, and it'll take time to get them working again.
As far as zero obligation to work with plugins/mods, etc...I'm assuming Notch wants to have good PR and a good relationship with his users. There's nothing worse than having a growing segment of your userbase become unhappy and give you a bad reputation by word of mouth. You can forget about growing your business when that happens, might as well retire. So get off my high horse? Might want to think about that again.
To downgrade the client: Download an old minecraft.jar, and delete META-INF out of it. Then replace minecraft.jar in your %application data%/.minecraft/bin folder (for windows users).
That's the only file you have to change now. I tested it against my server (not going to update that as it'll break all my plugins - that was hours of work) and it works.
Before Beta 1.3:
g73mc running SimpleServer RC 7.0 (Beta 1.2_02 Compatible)
All was good, I played Minecraft Sunday night on my server.
Now *Today*, I noticed some "Server Outdated" errors coming up.
So, I went to minecraft.net, downloaded the new minecraft_server.jar, and replaced the old one after backing up the map. I ran my server and after converting, restarted it once more. And *NOW*:
Port 25565 comes up as CLOSED on my IP. I did NOT change my router or firewall settings since Sunday... (I HAVE A STATIC INTERNAL IP ON MY SERVER, obviously ...)
Any time I try to connect, I immediately get "connection refused" error. and nothing in the server log to notify me. Same with all other clients/members.
Solutions?
Yes, I just tried, and my server is having the same issue. Works on other ports, however, so I changed my server.properties to port 999.

Doesn't Minecraft update the client automatically on each launch though? Is there a way to disable that?
If so, I would love to rollback to good ol' 1.2

If you have such an issue keeping things up to date, maybe you should talk to one of your friends who may have more time on their hands for upkeep and maintenance to see if they will take over for you. Otherwise, quit qq-ing. ALL GAMES UPDATE! if you have a problem with that...quit now.

1.3 is the definition of crap.
Minecraft does update the client automatically, and it appears to me right now that you can't do anything about, though I may be wrong. However, even though it updates other files as well, doing the above will let your old servers still work. What have you noticed that's different about the client after going back to the old minecraft.jar?
In reference to earliers posts about ports, I'm finding that port 25565 doesn't work only when I have server-ip=<blank> in the server.properties file. If I type in my external or local IP, it works.
If the server you play on is giving you this error you will have to wait until the Admins of that server update everything! There's nothing we can do to help if you aren't the admin of the server!
went to the link for the download of the server file and are the windows users getting ****ed or something? on three seperate computers i have tried the jar and exe file to download and it wont download either or it just stops and will not move at all, yet the other software files work fine. Someone know where i can get a link for the windows files that work
I had the server running fine before the patch as it was a person server, but I dont see how bukkit will let me download the new server file from the minecraft website? all i need is the jar file so i can replace it but the website says it cant find it
I try joining a server (its not mine) and it says this just after i dowloaded this new update. I don't wheather its already been answered here or somewhere else but I'm lazy and tired, so yeah. Lol.
No, just lazy.... if you had bothered to read even just the first page of the thread you posted in, you wouldn't have needed to post

Thanks so much for this post... I wasn't looking forward to post after post after post of people whining and crying about the same thing... I'm going to do this now and see if it works :biggrin.gif:

False. I'm running SimpleServer (vanilla + wrapper) and the update caused my server to immediately stop working on default port 25565. I have to force a port change in the server, and make my clients type in the new port for it to work.

Would it be because I'm running hey0 unofficial 134 mod build alongside the new 1.3 server jar?
Thanks
