how do i make my classic multiplayer server a McForge command server?
My computer(or network) always seemed to reject McForge / McAdmin stuff no matter what I did to try and fix it, so I'm not entirely sure. I don't have much experience with that server software. I can, however, offer a guess on what you'd need to do.
Usually different server software requires different files to run. This is what makes them seperate programs, really. You'd probably need to download McForge and run your server off of that instead of "making" your current one into an McForge server since files that are needed to make the difference, and unless your current server is already McForge, you probably don't have the files needed.
In short, I would try and download McForge and move your server maps over to there.

You always have to port forward when hosting a server.
a little off subject, i carnt get my freind to join (whos in same house as me) my server is there a way too check if hes on my network or anythign like that? cause it just keeps coming up saying "failed to connect" "probally down" yet he can join any other server?
i might be stupid and overlooked something but not sure can somebody help please?
Which IP are you giving him to connect? Your LAN, or WAN IP? If he is in the same house as you, he should be given the LAN IP, which should be the same one you're using to connect. If that isn't the problem, try making the server-ip in the server.properties file blank so it looks like this:
server-ip=
If that still doesn't fix anything, maybe you haven't forwarded your server port?

Maybe start up the server and I'll see if I can join it. If I can join, then that means that your server is connected fine, and it's something to do with you or your friend's computer, or perhaps your network.

All right, well I was able to join your server, so it seems that you have it set up correctly. This means that it must have something to do with the computer him or you are on, or the fact that you're connecting from the same network. Maybe your network doesn't like two connections coming from the same IP from or something.
Your server was really choppy and laggy though. There's definitely some sort of problem going on.

seems we can join same server as long as its not mine?
Ah, yes. I actually had the same problem when I wanted my friend to connect to my server. We never could figure out what it was exactly, but if you're having that error, then I don't think it's because you two are on the same network. Me and my friend were both at our own houses when we got that error, so we were on different networks. At one point though, I was able to have the server register that he had joined, but he was still getting that error and not connecting on his end. We ended up not solving it, and gave up after a while.
I'm not sure what to suggest in terms of fixing the problem, but if you can join another server, then at the very least you can do that. :\ I know it sucks, but at least it's something. You can also try to search around the forums for more answers if you want. Someone must know what to do.

how do i find the ip of the modded beta server that i created?
Your IP doesn't come from your server, but from your Internet Service Provider(ISP), so it automatically comes with your network. You can do a couple of things to find your IP. I will list them below...
To find your LAN IP, click your Start Menu button, then look to your right and you should see a Run... option. Click that, and it should bring up a little box where you can type in stuff. Type in cmd and it should bring up a command prompt window. From there, type in /ipconfig /all and it should list your network information. Your LAN IP should be listed next to IP Address.

im typing it in the run thing buts its not showing up
So you typed in /ipconfig /all into the command prompt and it didn't work? Strange. Umm... maybe just try typing in ipconfig without the /all extension then to simplify things. It should give you your LAN IP that way too.
To give an example of what the process should look like(without the showing of my IP), look at these:
Run window
Command Prompt

It should say if it's an IP address or not. An IP address usually uses this format: 0.0.0.0, so an example of an IP address would be something like this: 188.142.1.107. If you don't know what I mean, you could probably just go with trial and error until you found the correct one. I've never seen a network with 6 IPs on it before, lol.

anyway other way besides commands?
ive tried almost all the numbers
I don't know any other way. It's pretty straight-forward though. Maybe ask your friends or whoever else to show you which one it is. I can't see your screen, and I have no idea why 6 IPs are appearing on the list. There should only be one.

Have you forwarded the server port, or assigned your IP to the server properties file?

Ello!
So I just did your instructions on the non-modded SMP server. I try localhost, and it says
connection refused:connect
Why?
I even put my IP, but it still does not let me connect? = I'm stumped
And i just read your reply to a person who has a problem similar to mines. I put my IP on the notepad thing. But how to you forward the server port?
I'm setting up a SMP server for me and a few friends, but the one thats trying to connect now cant get on. And I've done everything here, and along with the wiki page for setting one up too, but still doesn't work.
The error message that he gets is "connection timed out". Now I can connect but when i do it takes time to load the terrain and the blocks that I destroy come back or take time to drop so I can pick them up, and also seem that I destroy them faster too.
Edit: Also when I check to see if its the port has forwarded it says it hasn't or isn't reachable. So that seems to be the only problem on my side that I'm having.
And another thing I read was that it causes the problems I'm having if I run the server on the same computer I'm playing on, is that true?
Any help you can provide is welcome. :biggrin.gif:
