I have two options for hosting a minecraft beta server. I have experience hosting a beta server. Which steup do you think will be better? The server will be solely dedicated to hosting minecraft beta.
Awhile ago I hosted 24+ players on 1.5GB dedicated RAM with no problems, even topped at 45 before, but there was a little noticeable strain there.
If I remember correctly, the rule of thumb:
1GB RAM = 15 slots with hmod / 20 slots vanilla
Of course it varies from this depending on your configuration and setup expertise :wink.gif:
The 2GB would work fine for 24 people if it's dedicated to your setup, but the 3GB gives you room to grow. The added processing from the 2GB server won't help you all that much.
Option 1:
2gb ram
AMD 64 x2 (2.0 ghz (dual core))
Option 2:
3gb ram
Intel Pentium (1.6 ghz (dual core))
I will be using CentOS and Bukkit, unless you have any other sugestions. I want a good number of slots and minimal lag (at least 24 slots).

Ill be going with 3GB RAM and an Intel Pentium at 1.6 Ghz
it scales exponentially after about 60
Just curious what cpu/hard drives do you run? I got a feeling it's a pretty hot build
