So, I can connect to my server just fine when I say localhost as the IP, but when I use my IP, I can't connect, nor can my friends. I have forwarded my port to 25565, but for some reason, I cannot connect, nor can anyone else. I'm not sure what information people will need to assist me, but I will give the info I can.
I'm launching the server via the mincraft_server.exe? lol, I'm not exactly sure... =P Umm, where do I find the console output? I was at my friends house last night, and he and I played on my server there, it worked at his place, so I'm guessing it was his router, or maybe his router firewall.
I've set up a server a million times before, and I actually got it to work here at one point, but the chunks wouldn't load. I know exactly how to set up a server, but I don't know what's going on with this specific problem. It simply says it can't connect, or that the connection timed out.

Based on being able to set up a server and connect using localhost, I can confidently agree that the server is set up correctly. Based on not being able to connect (from outside your network) with your public IP tells me its still a port-forwarding issue.
Also, in case you were trying--it is not possible to connect to your server FROM the same computer, using your public IP. Local will always be 192.x.x.x or localhost, remote will always be x.x.x.x public ip

As much as I hate to sound like a ****, I gotta disagree. When I had my server set up last night at my friend's place, we both used my public IP, and we both played on my server, while it was being hosted on the same computer I was playing on. But that's not the point. So, if I'm having a problem with forwarding my port, what can I do to try and diagnose the problem?
So, I figured out my server, and I can run it while my friends and I are on the same router, but my friends can't connect via my public I.P, and get connection refused errors. Anyone know what's up?
So, apparently m port isn't open. I know it's not blocked by a firewall, because when I'm on the same router as my friends, they can connect to my PC using my static IP. How exactly do I forward my port? I thought I did it right, but I guess I was wrong. =/
not the best solution but get your computer ip.(private ip) and seet yourself up in your routers DMZ. Bad news your completly open to the enter...good news ports are open :smile.gif:

Definitely do not do this, especially if you are running Windows as I believe you are (you mentioned previously you were using a .exe for the server).
Best thing to do is to access your router's admin panel and forward the port your server is using (likely default Minecraft port of 25565) to your private IP.

What nonsense.
I've been connecting to my server this way for months every time without a single exception. Where would you even come up with this "not possible" nonsense...

If your router does not support loopback, it is indeed impossible. Some folks can, some folks can't.
Minecraft is having a server transfer, it said they were doing that on his twitter. He said everyone would have problems, he said he had fixed it and hoped people wouldn't have problems before he went to sleep. Well we are :smile.gif:
hehe.

I've been having this problem since December, and this is totally unrelated to MY server, seeing as it's hosted on my computer... =P
Except that everyone has to validate through the minecraft servers if you have "online-mode=true" in your properties.
BTW, you wouldn't happen to be running windows XP pro would you? If so, thats your problem. Or at least that was the source of all the problems my server had. The moment I migrated it to a different OS (EXACT same configuration since it's a copy/paste and same port forwarding method on same hardware) it worked wonderfully.

Thank you, I will try this tomorrow.

Okay, then that's my bad, but the fact that I've had this problem since Christmas stands.
