Is there a bug or cheat (besides chunk errors) that allows players to see through walls? On my survival server one player is exceptionally good at finding and destroying other's bases. He basically makes a direct beeline to their base and digs down into it - almost like he knew where it was hiding. This has me a little suspicious that some form of cheating is happening.
This isn't just like the bug that occurs when you log on and see tunnels. Our server is HEAVILY mined so it is hard to identify bases even using the cartograph cave map due to all the development underground.
Perhaps he is using a mod that can identify chests from far away?
there is a texture package that makes all things that are naturally spawned/generated to be invisible, leaving only man-made objects to be visible... this needs to be fixed if PVP is gonna survive
Servers should have an "sv_pure" type option like Source engine games usually have. In Team Fortress 2 servers can disallow custom models/textures. Minecraft servers should have the same option.
As stargate said, there are texture packs that'll do that. Another glitch out there is being half buried with sand/gravel/etc. allows you to look through walls, like what happens when chunks don't load right away.
