I'm beginning to work on a new server, I have all the plugins I want, and everything pretty much ready.
I just have a couple questions
1) I received a new laptop for christmas. Its VERY fast, but I don't want to ruin the speed with a server. How much of a toll does hosting a server on your computer take?
2) My old laptop is a decent speed, and I can remove more stuff from it. Should I run it on that instead?
3) Are server providers absolutely necessary?
4) Where can I find a good map generator? All the ones I have looked at are either broken due to beta or otherwise.

Thanks for your help
Off the top of my head you may be better off hosting the server from your old laptop depending on it's specs.
If you don't have a good dedicated system and a really good internet connection, that's where us service providers come in.
I would say give it a shot hosting yourself and see how it turns out.
