I can't find a setting anywhere to start a server in offline mode. All that happens is I double click minecraft_server.exe and it starts up the server. It gives me no options. I'm trying to play a private game with my brother. Help?

Been noticing this phenomenon more where people who hold standards that above average are silenced while those with standards lower than average are viewed as pleasant and preferable. No wonder mass media is in such ****.
Where is that file at? I assumed it would be in the same folder as your minecraft_server.exe...I think I might have an error.
WAIT: Nvm. It wouldn't generate a server.settings, but I just started it form Windows Explorer and found that the problem was that I was launching it from Firefox. Wtf?

The address in that + the port given in the Minecraft server is NOT connecting.

Does the connection time out? Does the console for minecraft_server show anyone connecting? Do you receive an error?
A bit more information would be helpful.
I didn't make another thread :tongue.gif:/
My local IP for this laptop is 192.168.1.1. The IP I'm trying to start the server on (using server.properties), is 192.168.1.1.
Here is my server.properties:
#Minecraft server properties
#Sun Dec 26 16:13:18 EST 2010
level-name=world
hellworld=false
spawn-monsters=true
online-mode=false
spawn-animals=true
max-players=20
server-ip=192.168.1.1
pvp=true
server-port=25565
Here is the error I get:
[INFO] Starting minecraft server version Beta 1.1_02
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on 192.168.1.1:25565
[WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!

Check and make sure you don't have another java process already running.. control-alt-delete and go into Task Manager under "Processes" - If you see "java.exe" or anything with "java" then your server is already running.
If you don't see anything there, try changing the port to something else, like 25560 - just be sure to update your router if you have port forwarding set.

So I need to port forward even though this is entirely local?

No, I said remember to change your router settings if you've set up port forward.
If you haven't and you're only playing local - then no you don't need to set it up.
I'd also recommend admitting to cable/internet theft on the internet - not a wise idea.

Meh, I don't think they'd care. Anyways, I got it started. I changed the port to 3000. This is what it says:
[INFO] Starting minecraft server version Beta 1.1_02
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on *:3000
[WARNING] **** SERVER IS RUNNING IN OFFLINE/INSECURE MODE!
[WARNING] The server will make no attempt to authenticate usernames. Beware.
[WARNING] While this makes the game possible to play without internet access, it also opens up the ability for hackers to connect with any username they choose.
[WARNING] To change this, set "online-mode" to "true" in the server.settings file.
[INFO] Preparing level "world"
[INFO] Preparing start region
[INFO] Done! For help, type "help" or "?"
But when I try to connect to 192.168.1.1:3000, I get: Connection timed out, connect. Why is this so hard =/

Send me a PM with your AIM and download TeamViewer. I can probably get it going pretty quick, I just got Helic set up in about 2 minutes.
