while you kids were playing around, i made it work :tongue.gif: (j/k)
credit goes to yossi for figuring out that the usb needs time to load...
here's how to do it:
1. install it on a usb using http://www.linuxliveusb.com (i couldn't make it work using UNetbootin).
2. boot from the usb, it then shows this image..
3. you then press f2, for advanced boot.
4. you now see a list of commands. type in "microcore waitusb=20" or another desired number of seconds.. (20 worked like a charm for me).
5. install as the tutorial explains.
6. ???
7. profit!
i have been having some issues with UNetbootin and build 14, i'll try lili soon.

This may have been covered already, I tried google with no results and I don't have time to sift through 70 pages looking for an answer, so sorry if this is a repeat.
I am trying to install as a primary OS. I am booting from CD, and using both the ISO from Hexaparot (I know its out of date) and test build 13 of MineOS+ I am getting the same problem. When I install it on my primary machine under Virtual Box using the same CD everything works as it should. But when I put the CD in my server box and boot up, it seems to skip past some stuff and the home directory is emtpy. I read above about a solution for booting from USB, but booting from USB is not an option as the motherboard does not support it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
im no expert, but maybe you could do microcore waitcd=20
or you could get Plop bootmanager like I have.
you put it on some media that your computer can boot from (floppy, cd, whatever) and the computer boots to a little menu with a list of all harddrive partitions, cd drives, floppy drives, and usb. you can then boot to whereever you want regardless of what your BIOS is capable of.
I had a SATA dvd-burner laying around, so I tossed that in to see if it was the drive, and it worked this time, but it's now giving me errors when I try and run set up about "Partition ends in the final partial cylinder" I've tried 2 different drives and gotten the same error on both. One had an existing OS set up that I was just going to wipe and the other was just a formatted spare I had laying around.

i got the same error, not sure why, but i then used the fdisk tool to delete all my previous partitions ("sudo fdisk" and then "d" to delete partitions - exit using "w" to save the changes) and it then worked very nice for me after that..
It's a install script bug related to the way Hexparrot set it up to look for drives. It needs unpartitioned space or ext3 formated partitions at present. I will be redoing the install script, hopefully within a week.

i was not able to get build 14 to boot from USB with UNetbootin nor with lili. build 13 does boot with either, through.
when im booting from USB, what do i enter in the script where it asks what my optical drive is? the actual CD drive, or the USB drive?
i used the usb - as i'm pretty sure it wants to know where it has to copy from... i had my usb as sdb and my HDD as sda so i usde sda as my stortage and sdb as my device, and it worked like a charm.. :smile.gif:
Hmm, I wonder what is the matter with build 14. I don't think I had the time to test an install with that one.
@bnm12 - Might you have time to make a wiki page with detailed instructions for USB installs?
The release candidate is being built as we speak, and I will run it through it's paces thoroughly before releasing it. I'll upload it to the test builds after preliminary tests so you guys can help if you want.
I have a domain name that I'd be willing to point a subdomain at a different ip address for this project. No charge. PM me to discuss this.
Thanks for the offer. If I didn't already have four personal domains to choose from for a subdomain I would probably take you up on that.
A project website is being developed right now and should be up sometime this week.
Latest MineOS+ News:
mineos+_testbuild15RC.iso is being uploaded as I type. It will require a clean reinstall to fix some stuff I broke in a much earlier test build, but didn't notice until now (I highly recommend reinstalling if you are using an earlier version as there are security problems as well as the iptables bug). It is the release candidate for MineOS+ v0.1.0, so let me know immediately if any glaring bugs are present please.
The web-panel has a new logo and has been improved to prevent accidentally sending multiple commands before the previous one has completed. (you rock Segana!) The wiki it points to is empty at the moment, but we will get to work on that this week.
You are required to enter the 'minecraft2011' password during install again, guess that was me after all, lol. I will probably change that back to no password again before release since I think it made install simpler, and no one is going to try and hack your machine before you've installed anything anyway.
Release is now scheduled for early tomorrow afternoon (EST) baring any unforeseen issues.
I have to tell you that you are my hero for making MineOS. After i get paid, because i spent all my money on building a server, i will donate because you made my life easier. I am starting my first server with my friend and we built a costume box just to host the game. We went with with a 880G-E45 motherboard by MSI and have 8 gigs of ram and an AMD Phenom II @ 3.2 ghz so i dont think hardware will be our bottleneck anytime soon but our upload speed may be a problem. If anyone sees a problem with this setup pleas inform me on the issue.
This is my problem though. I have ramdisk set up and i believe that crontabs is set up properly but i am not sure. I have been searching everywhere for the answer to this and cant find it but how do you know if your automatic backups are working? I have lost my first world which sucked because the spawn was surrounded by tall mountains on all sides which was really cool looking so i did the whole crontab steps over starting with crontab -r to clear my entry. I am sorry i am a little new to linux but i am catching up fast because i am a computer science major.
Hmm seems i was out of the loop. I had no idea that it was not supported anymore. Thanks for informing me. Great thing you guys are doing though and if i had more skill under my belt with programming i would love to help out with such a huge project. I will be working on transferring my current world to the new operating system this weekend probably unless there is a way that i dont have to do a clean install. I will be reading up on MineOS+ now.
I have setup a bukkit server with all the necassary files (including the usebukkit file, and everythingelse on the mineos wiki-_-) and the server still does not run the bukkit jar and remains the pure MC. I have tried to create a new server and redownloaded all files countless times with no luck.Any Ideas as to what i can do?

Hi goose848,
I registered to the forums, because I think I may have a solution for you.
The default download path for the Bukkit jar is pointed to an older version.
I have another tower running MineOS and it's all setup, I rebooted, but I can't connect to the admin control panel because I guess I can't connect to the box. All the ports are forwarded (8080,25565,21) and I see the #2 lit up on my router. The local IP even shows up in my netgear list of attached devices. I turned off my firewall. Nothing seems to work! Could somebody help me fix this problem? When I ran MineOS in a VM on this computer it worked, I think that the MineOS computer isn't allowing connections.
I was wondering if it's possible to have this running (not the installation, the actual MineOS) on a USB Key?
I've tried it multiple times on two keys, and instead of starting the services (after the installation and reboot, eg. the HTTP login) it simply gives this:
sd 8:0:0:0: [sda] Assuming drive cache: write through
No matter what machine I use it on. Help please?
Also, is there currently any MySQL support, or will I have to find a secondary MySQL host (for bukkit plugins like BigBrother and iConomy)?
Is there any support for wireless drivers (ndiswrapper, etc)? I dont have any space to hook up a computer to the ethernet, but I have a wireless adapter and the driver files for it.

SATA for both the HDDs and the optical. I used my primary box to burn the images and have never had an issue with bad burns with it.

You'll need a new install
Hi goose848,
I registered to the forums, because I think I may have a solution for you.
The default download path for the Bukkit jar is pointed to an older version.
Through MineOS, perform the following:
1. Type cd /home/tc
2. Type ./30_paths.sh
3. Change the Bukkit download location to BUKKIT_JARLOC=http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/promotion/latest/Recommended/artifact/target/craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar
4. Press Ctrl+X to exit
5. Press Y to save changes, then Enter to overwrite the existing file
6. Update the server files through the MineOS Admin Page and attempt to recreate your world.
Hopefully this resolves the issue for you as it should download the Bukkit jar that is compatible with Minecraft 1.5_02.
