So I've successfully set up a server on my Mac, but the only problem is that it's a laptop and I use it for other things. It would be way more convenient if I could just leave the server on all the time. I have a PC that I never use, and I figured it would be perfect for what I need.
I can run the server software just fine, but obviously there's never enough ram, so I've been using the boosted ram startup that can be found all over the forums. I have port forwarded from Airport Manager on my Mac, but I can't access it on my PC.
I can't connect locally. It won't even work on the same PC. The server apparently isn't online if I try to connect with my external IP, and with the internal IP my connection is refused. I've tried several different ports and methods of booting, but nothing works.
Any ideas what's wrong? Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
EDIT:
The current problems/errors at this state are as follows (when I or someone else tries to join the server on the indicated machine):
Same Machine as Server (connected using :25566) - java.io.EFOException while downloading the terrain, or Failed to Connect: Connection Denied
Same Machine as Server (connected using internalip:25566 or externalip:25566) - Failed to connect: connection denied
Machine on the same home network (connected using :25566, internalip:25566 and externalip:25566) - Failed to Connect: Connection Denied
Any of my friends using the externalip:25566 - Failed to connect: connection denied
By the way, I had to change the port because it said another server was currently running on 25565, even when my Mac server was stopped.
I'm booting the server with 768MB of ram (from what I understand, more than enough for 3-4 people at once) using the standard
causes another java error that is so long that I can't read all of it. All I can see is java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort
I've only got 1 gig of ram on the machine, but booting with less ram for the server hasn't helped at all.
The computer has a Pentium 2.80 GHz CPU, if that helps at all.
